Texas authorities are frantically searching for a man accused of killing his parents at their secluded home last month. The suspect, 47-year-old Christopher Leman Jr., shares the same name as his father
Texas authorities are on a desperate hunt for a man suspected of murdering his parents in their remote home last month.
The alleged perpetrator, Christopher Leman Jr. , 47, bears the same name as his father. As of Friday morning, investigators report that his location remains a mystery, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning that he is “considered a danger to the community.”
The investigation was initiated on 11 July around 5.30 pm, following a request for a welfare check at a property on Crosby Lynchburg Road in east Harris County, near Houston. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Christopher Leman Sr. , 75, and his wife, Mary Leman, 73, severely injured, reports the Mirror US.
Leman Sr. was found deceased in the living room. His wife Mary, though still alive, was rushed to hospital where she initially seemed stable but tragically passed away two days later.
“@HCSOTexas needs your help to find Christopher Leman (9-3-77) who is wanted in connection with the brutal murders of his parents, Christopher Leman Sr (75) and Mary Leman (73),” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X on Saturday.
“Today, Leman was charged with Capital Murder. He is NOT in custody and his whereabouts are unknown. Anyone with information is urged to contact the HCSO at 713-274-9100 or @CrimeStopHOU at 713-222-TIPS (8477),” Sheriff Gonzalez further added.
The Sheriff revealed that the property where the couple were discovered lies in a woodland area approximately half a mile from the main road. He confirmed that Leman Sr. had suffered gunshot wounds.
Whilst authorities initially suspected Mary had also been shot, medical professionals determined her injuries resulted from a head laceration rather than gunshot trauma. Investigators quickly pinpointed the couple’s son, Christopher Jr., as the primary suspect.
He now faces a capital murder charge, an offence that in Texas can result in the death penalty. Officials are appealing for anyone with information regarding Leman Jr.
‘s whereabouts to contact law enforcement without delay.
Major Anthony McConnell said: “It’s heartbreaking whenever lives are lost in this way.
“These were people in their mid-70s, enjoying their retirement years. They certainly didn’t deserve this.”
Those acquainted with Leman Jr have been stunned by the case. Dennis Butterworth, who was a classmate of the suspect, revealed he finished at the top of their secondary school year.
He told ABC 13: “I always assumed he was doing great things because he was the smartest kid in school, was super sharp. Kind of kept to himself a lot in high school.
“You obviously don’t want to see anybody else get hurt, and you want justice for his parents,” Butterworth added. “I hope they find him and they bring him in safely for everyone involved.”
