Manchester United were beaten by Arsenal in their opening game of the new Premier League season, and Ruben Amorim will be hoping to add to his squad before the transfer window closes
Manchester United suffered a disappointing start to the new campaign, falling to a 1-0 home defeat against Arsenal on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim’s team can draw positives from their display at Old Trafford, with new arrivals Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both catching the eye. Supporters will now be pinning their hopes on Benjamin Sesko to provide the goals United desperately require after another goalless outing at the weekend.
Many Red Devils supporters will also be crossing their fingers for a fresh midfield addition before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1. Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton have emerged as the most prominent targets in recent weeks.
According to The Athletic, United’s potential move for Wharton this summer is unlikely.
Reporter David Ornstein told NBC Sport: “They’ve been linked to the likes of [Martin] Hjulmand at Sporting Lisbon and Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace.
“I’m not sure those are likely to come to fruition at this moment in time; they want to get players out of here, and Andre Onana is an interesting situation.
“They would look for a new goalkeeper, but there’s no sign of him going at the moment. Garnacho, there is a good chance he goes to Chelsea. Jadon Sancho, Roma [are] in talks, club-to-club, but he hasn’t decided.
“Rasmus Hojlund his time here looks to be coming towards an end. He’s not involved today. Tyrell Malacia could also leave the club.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all reportedly eyeing a shock swoop for Brentford captain Nathan Collins.
The Daily Mail reports that interest in the 24-year-old centre-half is intensifying – though the Bees are likely to be extremely reluctant to part ways with him. It’s suggested that United are eager to bolster their defensive ranks and Collins could be the ideal target.
Collins joined Brentford from Wolves in 2023 for a club-record £23million. But the departures of Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard, as well as the likely exit of Yoane Wissa this summer, leave the Bees unwilling to sell the defender.
