Former Real Housewives of Cheshire star Christine McGuinness has opened up about her decision to quit E4’s Celebs Go Dating after splitting from Paddy McGuinness
Christine McGuinness has disclosed that she departed Celebs Go Dating because she wants to “date more privately”.
The model and TV personality, 37, joined the most recent series of the E4 dating programme hoping to discover romance three years after her separation from husband Paddy McGuinness.
But it later emerged that Christine – who has three children with her former partner – had departed the programme prematurely.
Her emotional exit has now been broadcast, showing Christine informing the programme’s relationship specialists Anna Williamson and Paul C Brunson that she was missing her children and had chosen to return home from filming in Ibiza.
OK! reported that she said in the episode broadcast on August 19: “Well, I’ve been thinking quite a lot while we’ve been in Ibiza and I think I need to date in more of a natural environment.”
Christine – who received an autism diagnosis in 2021 aged 33 – added: “I think I just would love to meet somebody and date more privately. It’s where I’m kind of feeling myself going back, when I want to go freely forward. And I’ve made the decision to leave the agency.
“I have found it quite a lot,” said Christine, who has previously opened up about dating both men and women.
“You have been amazing, you have been absolutely amazing. But as much as I am very, very comfortable talking about my sexuality and being me, and I know that I want to continue dating women, I’ve found that outside attention far too much.
“And I’ve found myself feeling like I’m hiding more. And I don’t want that. That’s not what I want.”
Getting emotional, she continued: “I’ve been missing the kids loads this week. I think all the love I need right now is waiting for me at home.”
The telly personality married Take Me Out presenter Paddy back in 2011, and together they’re mum and dad to 12-year-old twins Leo and Penelope, plus eight year old daughter Felicity – all three children are on the autistic spectrum.
The pair revealed their separation in 2022, releasing a statement explaining that their romance was over and that they had decided to part ways but still had “a great relationship”.
“This was not an easy decision to make but we’re moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children,” they added in the joint statement.
Celebs Go Dating airs Monday to Thursday on E4 at 9pm.
