Clinical psychologists Dr John Gartner and Dr Harry Segal have claimed that Donald Trump’s cognitive ability is deteriorating as he is “slipping” and showing clear signs of early dementia

Two psychologists have asserted that Donald Trump’s mental faculties are declining, claiming he is “slipping” and displaying obvious signs of early dementia.

Analysing evidence of the president’s supposed decline, clinical psychologists Dr John Gartner and Dr Harry Segal highlighted a social media post from last week where Trump referenced St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city, by its former Soviet-era designation, Leningrad.

During the latest instalment of his programme Shrinking Trump, Dr Segal said: “We are seeing him slipping.”

The psychologists referenced comments from Historian Heather Cox Richardson, who recently stated on her YouTube channel that “Trump’s mental deterioration is very obvious now. Anybody who’s dealt with people having mental deterioration issues will recognize what they’re seeing.”

Dr Segal then pointed out one of the most evident signs of early dementia that Trump has allegedly been displaying.

He explained: “I found these two minutes of Trump confabulating. That is when someone is suffering from early stages of dementia, they’ll often take something they know or tell a story of something they know, and they’ll add details which didn’t really happen as if it happened to them.”

He went on to say: “It’s almost dreamlike and Trump has been doing this more and more. He did it about Ted Gazinski and his uncle… but this is Trump confabulating about people taking down statues in DC.”

Dr Segal cited a lengthy speech Trump made where he spoke about statues being torn down. Trump said: “They started to rip down the statue of Abraham Lincoln. I said ‘that’s a tough one to rip down’. That’s, he was pretty good Pam. I think he was pretty good when they, when the ropes started going around Abraham Lincoln to pull him down, Andrew Jackson, others and they were heading to the Jefferson Memorial, Thomas Jefferson.

“They were going to do a big number there. I said, ‘It’s time.’ And I signed that statute immediately. We had it updated. We used the same language, all passed by Congress and I announced it’s 10 years in jail, no probation, no anything. 10 years, no curtail sentence if you touched, so much as touch a statue in Washington DC and it was an amazing site, beautiful site. Everybody just left.”

The psychologists were left astounded by Trump’s account and how he spoke as if he was there, reports the Irish Star. “Okay. So, just to tell you what the real facts are,” Dr Segal said.

“There was a statute like that from the 19th century. He couldn’t get it through Congress, even though he just said that Congress voted on it, he did it as an executive order back in his first term. There was some talk of people wanting to pull down a statue of Lincoln. They never did. They never went to the Lincoln Memorial. They never went to the Jefferson Memorial.”

He went on: “He didn’t do this and stop them from doing it as if he did it that week. And he told it as if it was a story that happened to him that he was taking part in.

“The fact was Trump tells it like it’s a story that happened to him in real time. And it’s just not true. None of that is true.”

Dr Gartner added: “It’s cringey”.

After his yearly medical examination in April, Trump’s physician declared he was in “excellent cognitive and physical health”. The president boasted about achieving the “highest mark” on his cognitive assessment whilst White House doctor Captain Sean Barbabella stated: “President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
