Coronation Street’s iconic knicker factory Underworld could be getting a brand new owner
The new owner of Coronation Street’s Underworld has been ‘rumbled’ by fans and it’s a returning soap legend.
The iconic knicker factory has been a staple on the ITV soap since 1997 after being set up by Mike Baldwin (Johnny Briggs). Fast forward to 2007 and current owner Carla Connor (Alison King) took ownership and has been at the helm since.
Over the years, several familiar faces have taken up a job at Underworld, including legends like Hayley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh), Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire) and Janice Battersby (Vicky Entwistle).
Currently, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) works there as a manager, while residents like Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston), Besty Swain (Sydney Martin) and Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) are the business’ machinists.
However, Underworld has been hit with serious drama recently after Sarah’s meeting with a big client Eli went horribly wrong.
During the meeting, Eli was left furious to learn that Sarah’s boyfriend is Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who previously made Eli late by insisting on searching his car because he was parked illegally.
Sarah then ordered Kit out and locked Eli in the office so she could finish her pitch. Later on though, Sarah was left shocked when she found out that Eli was planning to report her for sexual harassment, as revenge.
And in Friday’s episode (August 21) the factory was hit with another blow when Carla revealed that she had agreed with Eli for a whooping 40% discount. However, to make matters worse, Carla revealed to Sarah that their other clients were now demanding discounts too.
And now, with the Underworld facing drama and money issues fans reckon it’s only a matter of time until it gets a new owner. On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one person wrote: “Unpopular opinion but I’d put money on Underworld getting a new owner soon.”
Someone else then suggested Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) who is returning to the soap later this year. They said: “I’d like Eva to take it over maybe, she’s coming back soon.” A third said: “Yeah Eva would be good, she worked there before too.”
Eva’s return to Coronation Street was announced last month – and she’s not alone. Joining Eva are her partner Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) and his interfering mother Maggie (Pauline McLynn).
