Newcastle’s three conditions to allow Alexander Isak to complete Liverpool transfer

Alexander Isak has reiterated his desire to leave Newcastle this summer despite holding crisis talks with the club’s hierarchy over his future at St James’s Park

Alexander Isak remains hell-bent on departing St James’s Park – despite emergency discussions with Newcastle’s top brass.

The Newcastle striker has reiterated his determination to secure a move before Monday’s transfer deadline and has set his sights firmly on a switch to Liverpool.

The Reds have seen one offer knocked back and are prepared to return with an improved bid if given any encouragement, but they remain considerably short of Newcastle’s eye-watering £150m asking price.

Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is desperately attempting to orchestrate a deal that would keep Isak on Tyneside.

Club chiefs Jamie Reuben and Jacobo Solis visited the striker at his residence on Monday ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Liverpool, reports the Mirror.

The meeting was designed to explore ways of bringing Isak back into Newcastle’s first-team setup, given the Sweden international has boycotted the opening two fixtures of the campaign.

However, Isak left no doubt that his stance remains unchanged and his ambition is to join Liverpool.

The forward released a public statement last week in which he slammed the club for “broken promises” and declared “the relationship can’t continue.”

Despite Newcastle’s frantic attempts to reconcile with Isak, the standoff appears destined to continue until the window slams shut.

Whether Newcastle will authorise a departure remains uncertain, particularly with precious little time left to secure suitable replacements in the transfer market. Newcastle are adamant that their valuation must be met and they also aim to secure two new signings before even contemplating a sale.

They have been resolute all summer in their stance not to sell, but it’s likely their resolve will be tested again before the transfer window closes.

The Magpies have been pursuing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, but have had two offers rejected, with the second bid amounting to £40m.

They have also seen a £50m offer for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen rebuffed, with the Midlands club maintaining they will not sell and are keen to offer the Norwegian international a new contract.
