A man who killed a police officer revealed how colleagues apologised to him and offered to help him. Clark Fredericks admitted killing former Boy Scout leader and Sussex sheriff’s officer Dennis Pegg in 2012 following years of sexual abuse.

In an emotional interview, Fredericks revealed what happened when he was brought in for questioning at the same station Pegg worked in. He told YouTuber Stephanie Soo: “I’m thinking, like, I’m public enemy number one amongst law enforcement. I just killed one of their own.”

Fredericks said while in custody at state police barracks, a lieutenant by the name of Howie Ryan approached him to apologise.

He said: “I’m like, what are you apologising to me for? And he’s like, ‘I’ve heard rumours about Dennis Pegg for a long time’ and he goes ‘I want to apologise to you for never stopping him’ but he goes ‘I can’t arrest somebody on rumours, I need victims, I need cold hard facts and I had neither of those and I apologise to you.’

“He then left the room and at first, Steph, I felt ‘wow, that’s pretty cool’ and then I’m like, I just started fuming. I’m like, even the state police knew. Everybody about Dennis Pegg… Police just admitted they knew and yet I’m the one who just had to flush his life away and look at life in prison to stop him and they knew.

“So, I went from feeling good for a second to getting really pissed off for another second. And I’m like, what’s the matter anyway, I’m done.”

Fredericks said prosecutors were in the next room waiting to question him when Liutenant Ryan walked in and offered him advice.

He said: “He could just tell that I was done… He said ‘my detectives and detectives from the prosecutors office are in another room waiting to interrogate you’. He goes, ‘if you go into that room and open up your mouth, you could potentially destroy the rest of your life’.

“He goes, ‘I’m telling you right now, go in there and exercise your fifth amendment right and request a lawyer and stay shhh. Keep your mouth shut’. I said to him ‘I don’t have a lawyer’ and he goes ‘I’m going to take care of that’.”

Liutenant Ryan left the room and came back with his mobile phone and called one of the “big” lawyers in the county and told him to fax a retainer for costs to the police department.

“The lawyer said ‘who is he? what did he do?’ And he said Clark Fredericks, murder, and he goes, ‘ok then’ and had the thing over in a couple of minutes.”

Fredericks said from the age of year until he was 12, he was sexually assaulted and raped by Pegg. He never told anyone about the rapes and claimed Pegg raped his best friend, who died of suicide in 1983.

He told a courtroom in 2015 Pegg controlled him by tortouring and killing animals in front of him and threatened to do the same to him if he revealed their ‘secret’. He said he felt Pegg, as a cop, was “untouchable,” according to NBC.

But in 2012, he watched the sexual abuse trial of Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky and then his conviction on June 11. “The next day, June 12, my shell cracked,” he said.

Fredericks said he got drunk, snorted cocaine, and with friend Bob Reynolds, who police arrested as an accomplice, went to Pegg’s Stillwater home with a hunting knife Pegg had given him back in scouting.” He went on to stab Pegg to death and pleaded guilty in court.
