Grab a holiday bargain

A top travel firm has revealed its top tips for savvy travellers to grab a cheap trip this autumn. The holiday experts have shared their insider knowledge to help travellers bag a bargain break between September and November.

Expedia has launched it’s Autumn Travel Outlook reveals key dates for budget-friendly travel this season. They say for international flights, the lowest fares can be found on September 12 and 26. They add domestic travellers will find the best value for accommodation on October 26 and November 2.

Overall, travel is significantly cheaper this autumn, thanks to what is dubbed the “shoulder season” when demand dips between the busy summer and winter holidays, leading to lower prices on both flights and accommodation.

‘Not only are airfares dropping during the shoulder season, but hotel and holiday rental prices are as well’

Melanie Fish, Head of Public Relations for Expedia Group Brands, said: “Autumn is the sweet spot for savvy travellers.

“Not only are airfares dropping during the shoulder season, but hotel and holiday rental prices are as well. As a matter of fact, some stays available on Expedia can drop by up to 50 per cent at the end of September compared to peak summer rates.”

The in depth report also reveals that Brits are ditching major cities in favour of scenic, slower-paced destinations. Tenby, with its pastel-coloured harbour and cliffside walks, and Oxfordshire, known for its historic villages and countryside pubs, are among the top trending spots.

Essex is also seeing a surge, thanks to its mix of seaside charm and easy access from London. Brit travellers are diving into an Egyptian autumn, with searches to the Red Sea up 20%.

Hurghada continues to shine as a go-to beach escape, offering world-class diving, snorkelling and reliable sunshine well into the shoulder season. Lesser-known gems like Ras Ghareb, Qusier and Marsa Alam are also gaining traction, appealing to travellers seeking quieter coastal experiences, vibrant marine life without the peak-season crowds and unmatched diversity.

Travellers looking for value are turning to Lithuania, offering travellers a blend of Baltic charm, UNESCO-listed Old Towns, and vibrant cultural experiences at a fraction of the cost of more traditional European hotspots.
