England international Sinead Peach is due to face a match review panel on Thursday, which will consider disciplinary action for her vulgar outburst during match that was being streamed online
A top women’s rugby league player faces a lengthy ban after being sent off for questioning the referee’s decision and asking: “Which one are you s****ing?” Sinead Peach, 27, was sent off in the 79th minute of York Valkyrie’s 18-8 defeat to St Helens on Saturday.
The England international is due to face a match review panel on Thursday, which will consider disciplinary action for her vulgar outburst during a top-of-the-table clash that was being streamed online.
When a decision went against her side, the hooker was seen complaining to referee Oliver Salmon, who pulled her up for her comments. He was heard on his microphone saying: “I’m not having you saying, ‘Which one are you s****ing?’ You’re off.”
Peach was sent off for her X-rated dissent and was seen trudging off the field after being shown the red card.
The Rugby Football League’s match review panel will look into the incident and she may face a hefty ban if found guilty of questioning the integrity of a match official.
But it is expected to be an unusual case as there is no precedent to predict the length of the ban if the charge is proved.
In a statement released on Monday, York chairman Clint Goodchild said: “On behalf of York RLFC, I wish to address the matter concerning Sinead Peach.
“Sinead expressed genuine remorse immediately for the comment and understands the serious nature of the situation. We will continue to support Sinead while she and the team prepare for the approaching playoffs.
“As a Club, we have confidence the RFL tribunal process will take into account Sinead’s longstanding positive contribution to the game and her respectful reputation will be recognised. We are committed to the values of respect and integrity that underpin our sport.”
Champions York had led 8-0 early on, but St Helens roared back and scored 18 unanswered points to claim the victory during Saturday’s match. After Saints’ Faye Gaskin converted a penalty — which Peach disputed — live footage appeared to show Salmon detailing the exact nature of the dissent to his fellow officials.
Peach was named the Woman of Steel — the award given to the Super League’s best player — in 2023, scoring 13 tries in 17 games as Valkyrie won the title.
She signed a new professional deal before taking maternity leave to have a baby, and has since returned to playing. She previously played for Featherstone Rovers and Castleford Tigers before making the switch to the North Yorkshire club.
