Office axe-throwing outings have been cut back thanks to Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ punishing raid on employer National Insurance.

XP Factory, which operates venues that provide the activity, said the increase in the minimum wage had also taken its toll on the appetite for employers to hire them out.

Axe throwing is among the pursuits offered by XP at its Boom Battle Bar venues.

XP also hosts escape room experiences via its Escape Hunt label.

Sales were down across both brands over the three months to June.

This was partly blamed on the hot weather as well as ‘a deterioration in business confidence related to rising minimum wage and National Insurance costs’.
