EXCLUSIVE: Some revelations may come as a surprise
A Dating Naked UK bombshell has revealed the things you may not know as the controversial show returns to screens.
Rylan Clark returned last month with a brand new season as a fresh batch of singles shed their clothes in the hopes of finding love. Premiering on Paramount+, episodes are released weekly, with ten in total, and fans have already seen plenty of drama.
From brutal dumpings and “mortifying” experiences to a horror accident forcing an early exit, fans have seen it all as just four episodes have been released. This week (September 5) saw brand new arrivals, including a Dreamboys star.
Ryan Kendall made his grand entrance on the show, swooping in on a zip wire and gate crashing the date between Matt and Dom.
It came following drama in the house as Keir was seen kissing Matt as Dom and Ryan arrived back in the house. But speaking exclusively to Reach PLC’s Screen Time team, Ryan has opened up about the show and shared some of the things you may not know about the programme behind the scenes.
When he was asked to join the cast, the Dreamboys legend couldn’t wait for the chance to build new connections.
Being naked
The main question on everyone’s mind is are contestants naked all of the time. And Ryan confirmed that yes they are.
He said: “The main thing for me is being naked and how fast you get used to it, straight away in the first ten minutes you see everyone is naked and after ten minutes you don’t realise at all, it’s like being fully clothed.”
He added: “You are naked all of the time, there’s certain things like when welfare come in where you need to do certain procedures to hide it but yeah you’re naked mostly all the time, it’s amazing.”
The villa
Ryan admitted the luxury villa was “surreal”, but there are certain rooms that remain locked. He said: “Being in the house, it’s just surreal.
“The house is surreal, being in an absolute mansion, it’s stunning. Certain rooms you can’t go in, certain rooms are locked so even in the places you are allowed to go, it’s surreal.”
However, he confessed the pool, although stunning on screens, is in fact “freezing”.
Phones
This one may come as a surprise to fans, but contestants are not allowed to have their mobile phones on them, nor contact from the outside world, other than those involved in the show. Ryan said he was “gutted” being away from his phone, which is his “whole life” as he said: “It’s like I lost my left leg.
“You’re not allowed your phone and you’re not allowed to know the time at all. We had to go back to the olden days and judge where the sun is in the sky to know the time. It’s a crazy experience but a nice detox as well.”
Filming
With being naked all the time, Ryan confirmed there are cameras constantly on, whether on walls or ceilings as he said: “There’s many cameras in there so you’re quite aware (of them). The scariest part is when you’re sitting there or lying in bed and this camera turns and there’s a light in your face.
“But yeah you are aware of the cameras. You tend to forget about them at most points if I’m honest because obviously you get so used to them being there but there’s many cameras dotted around the house that’s spinning all the time, so you do notice them. They’re so clear as well on TV.”
Camera crews are also on hand to capture major moments and TV inserts as Ryan went on to say: “Camera crews are there sometimes for inserts, for example before the break or trying to portray certain storylines or cut scenes but the whole edit, on the whole, is from the main house cameras.
Genuine drama
Speaking about the drama and high tensions, Ryan admitted everything we see on the show is real, arguments and all. He said: “It’s very genuine, that’s what I love about episodes one and two, I wasn’t in the house then but watching it back, every bit of drama that I went into was all real.
“It’s crazy because I didn’t know what happened, I was trying to work out where the drama was coming from and watching it back now I know. There’s still conversations, some bits they may not put in, but it’s genuine all the way through.
“Some programmes these days are very fabricated, this one wasn’t.”
Welfare teams
The cast is constantly supported by welfare teams from before the show, to after. Ryan said he is still contacted now to see how he is.
He said: “There’s so much support behind it. Before I went on we had chats with executives, welfare teams and mental health experts and there was so much support. Even in the house, you always had daily welfare checks as well, literally supportive all the way through even now I’m getting calls every week ensuring I’m okay.
“I’m naked all the time for my job anyway, it’s still a different sort of naked, but there’s people who’ve never been naked that long so it’s great to see them so supportive and so caring as well even after the show.”
Teams are also on hand to provide sun cream and essentials.
