Manchester United are set to offload the final member of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad before the Turkish transfer window closes, having been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford
Manchester United have reportedly struck a deal with Turkish side Eyüpspor for the transfer of defender Tyrell Malacia.
The Red Devils are set to loan out the Dutch defender, who has struggled to secure a place in the starting line-up and has been plagued by injuries. The 26-year-old joined United from Feyenoord in a deal reported to be worth £13million plus add-ons.
Since his move to Old Trafford in 2022, Malacia has made just 47 appearances, most of which were in his debut season under Erik ten Hag. Last season, he only featured four times before being loaned out to PSV in the Eredivisie for the latter half of the campaign.
Upon his return from loan, Malacia was one of five players, dubbed the ‘bomb squad’ instructed to train separately from the first team – alongside England striker Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho, all of whom secured transfers away from the club before the English transfer window shut on 1 September.
The defender was linked with a last-minute move to La Liga outfit Elche on deadline day, but the transfer fell through due to a disagreement over a permanent clause in the contract.
Despite the Premier League transfer window being closed, Super Lig clubs can still make signings as the Turkish transfer window remains open until 12 September.
Reşat Can Özbudak, a journalist at YS TV, posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Eyüpspor has reached an agreement with Manchester United for the loan transfer of Tyrell Malacia The decision is awaited.”
Whilst United wait for a final decision, one player who looks set to complete his switch to the Super Lig is Andre Onana.
The Cameroon goalkeeper has agreed to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan after failing to impress Amorim.
Meaning that £18.2m deadline day signing Senne Lammens will rival Altay Bayindir for the No.1 spot, despite the Turkey international’s shaky form in goal.
It remains to be seen who Amorim will hand the gloves to on Sunday when United turn to Premier League action following the international break in the derby against Manchester City.
