Speaking virtually at a summit in Los Angeles, Musk took a sideswipe at the US Government and called it basically ‘unfixable’ – claiming only AI can solve national debt
Billionaire Elon Musk – Donald Trump’s former best friend and employee – has hit out at the American national debt and has claimed that if AI and robots don’t solve the national debt, the country is “toast”.
Speaking over video link at the All-In Summit 2025 – an event held in Los Angeles advertised to bring together the world’s most influential thinkers, investors, founders and leaders – the X owner declared that the government is “basically unfixable”.
He also revealed that he hasn’t been to Washington DC since May – when he resigned as a ‘special government employee’ in DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) – and confirmed he was back and work and focused.
While he praised David Sacks – the Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology – he was pretty scathing about the government as a whole.
Musk said: “I haven’t been to DC since May. The government is basically unfixable. I applaud David (Sacks’) noble efforts – it’s good to have talented people in the administration.
“But at the end of the day if you look at our national debt, which is insanely high – the interest payments exceed the defence department, sorry the war department, budget and they keep rising.
“If AI and robots don’t solve our national debt, we’re toast.”
Musk has been openly critical of the government since his resignation earlier on in the year and spoke out against Trump’s new bill on tax and spending – saying the planned legislation left him “disappointed”.
In the days after his departure from the White House, Musk declared that the President was in the Epstein files, writing a post on X: “That is the real reason they have not been made public.”
For his part, Trump – who he previously received millions from Musk during his presidential campaign – described Musk as the “man who lost his mind” and said he was “not particularly interested” in speaking to him.
