A female prison officer is staring at a decade in prison after admitting to a raunchy affair with an inmate.

Charlotte Winstanley, 27, was accused of having a “romantic relationship” with convicted prisoner Jabhari Blair, 29, during her time working at HMP Lindholme in south Yorkshire. During her three-and-a-half month fling, the shamed guard smuggled including a mobile phone into the prison.

Winstanley appeared at Sheffield Crown Court where she admitted misconduct in public office by having “romantic relation with a prisoner”. A court heard the crime, which occurred between August and November 2022, carries a maximum 10-year sentence, the Sun reports.

Hailing from Stainforth, south Yorkshire, Winstanley also admitted sending a photo from inside the Category C prison in April 2024. Her inmate loverboy, Blair was jailed for over 12 years in 2014 for taking part in a vicious street fight.

Joining the hearing from a video link from a Nottingham prison, the criminal admitted possessing cannabis, a phone and a USB stick.

When told he would be sentenced on December 3, Blair said: “Thanks for the birthday present!” Winstanley meanwhile was granted bail until sentencing.

Winstanley’s barrister Khadim Al-Hassan said she admitted the offences on the “full facts… she’s made a full and frank disclosure”.

Hailing from Leeds, Blair was aged 18 when he stabbed a man during a mass brawl in Bradford. His crime was described at the time by the sentencing judge as “disgusting and sickening”.

Judge Rhys told the pair: “Jabhari Blair and Charlotte Winstanley, you’ve pleaded guilty to acceptable counts on the indictment.

“You will therefore need to be sentenced. Sentence will take place on December 3. Charlotte Winstanley, you can remain on bail as same terms as before but make sure you’re back in good time for sentence on December 3. A failure to do so may lead to your arrest.”

Last year, a former prison officer named Sarah Williams found herself at the centre of a deadly revenge killing, after she embarked on an illicit affair with prisoner Elias Morgan.

Williams, who worked at Liverpool’s HMP Altcourse, was discovered by her colleague Lenny Scott to be engaged in the affair with Morgan at the prison.

After Mr. Scott rumbled the pair, Morgan unsuccessfully tried to get the paperwork “ballsed up”. Eventually Morgan took matters into his own hands and killed Mr. Scott in cold blood outside a gym in February last year.
