The FBI have released a new video showing the moments after the conservative firebrand was shot dead, as the manhunt for his killer enters its second day
As the hunt for Charlie Kirk’s killer moves into its second day, the FBI have unveiled fresh footage capturing the moments following the conservative commentator’s fatal shooting.
During a Thursday evening briefing, FBI officials presented the new video, confirming particulars of the gunman’s immediate actions after discharging the single devastating shot that claimed the 31-year-old MAGA personality’s life at a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
After rising from a lying position atop a campus building close to where Kirk was addressing the audience, a shadowy figure can be observed sprinting rapidly across the rooftop to flee the scene.
The FBI agent leading the investigation, Robert Bohls, provided commentary for the footage, explaining that the individual then “ran behind the upper building and moved to the far right corner, as he does, he climbs off the edge and drops down to the ground.”
Following a substantial fall to ground level, a figure matching earlier photographs issued of the “person of interest” sought in connection with the slaying can be seen crouching before escaping towards the right side of the FBI footage.
Agent Bohls described the landing spot as a crucial area for their investigation. “He left some palm impressions, some places where we’re hoping to gather some DNA,” Bohls said.
He appealed to the public to take note of his black T-shirt featuring an American flag and eagle, his distinctive Converse trainers, and his baseball cap bearing a triangle logo. Officials also disclosed that the wooded area where authorities discovered a rifle, fitted with a long-range scope, was merely a few hundred metres from where Kirk had perished on the Utah Valley University campus.
An hour prior to the impromptu press conference, which FBI Director Kash Patel attended but remained silent throughout, US law enforcement unveiled four fresh images of the individual they are seeking in relation to Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting.
The enhanced photographs show the suspect navigating through a stairwell, with his face turned away from the security cameras.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said they were releasing the footage to “get as much attention as possible, in order to get help from the public to track down this evil human being.”
Cox also outlined how the investigation had garnered more than 7000 tip-offs and carried out over 200 interviews in their hunt for the killer, the highest figure since the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.
He also confirmed they would pursue the death penalty for Kirk’s assassin.
Nevertheless, no one at the press conference suggested that they knew the suspect’s identity or their location.
At its end, the officials departed the room in silence whilst reporters shouted questions after them. Following the public appeal for information, Utah’s Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason admitted to NBC that investigators “have no idea” where the suspect currently is.
They are clueless as to whether the murderer stayed near the crime scene or even if they have crossed state boundaries.
“We’re exploring leads for individuals that live close by,” he added. “We literally have persons of interest, tips coming in on the tip line, that are spanning far and wide.”
