A recall has been issued for a popular food product over fears it poses an allergens risk. The Food Standards Agency has issued a warning in relation to a pack of mini pies
A major supermarket has warned its customers “not to eat” one of it’s popular items over fears it could be dangerous to some customers.
Food giant Co op has recalled a batch of four Mini Pork & Pickle Pies because they contain milk – which isn’t mentioned on the label.
Because of this, the pies could pose a severe health risk if consumed by anyone with an allergy to milk, or milk-related products. The batch affected is a 200g packet with 200g use-by dates on August 13, 14 and 16, 2025.
A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Co-op is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it.
“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund or replacement (subject to availability). If purchased online, you can receive a refund by calling 0330 041 7737. You can contact Co-ops Careline on 0800 0686 727 or email by visiting the Co-op website.”
When it comes to exactly what an “Allergy Alert” is, the Food Standards Agency said: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
Several supermarkets have issued recalls lately. Just days ago, a popular butter product was pulled from the shelves due to concerns it could pose a choking risk.
Daylesford Organic’s Cacao Double Nut Butter is deemed unsafe for consumption as it may contain metal ball bearings, warns the Food Standards Agency.
The Oxfordshire-based company, located in Chipping Norton, has recalled batches of the product because of the risk of ball bearings in some batches of their nut butter.
Daylesford Organic has issued a recall notice to its customers regarding the Cacao Double Nut Butter. The affected batches are packaged in 230g pots and bear expiry dates of February 2027.
