Strictly Come Dancing is set to hit our screens in just a matter of days, but new star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has revealed he is determined to secure the glitterball trophy
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is so competitive he likes to beat his 11-year-old daughter at Snakes and Ladders. The football legend admits he is obsessed with winning.
In a warning to his Strictly rivals, he said: “I know I am going to be very competitive on Strictly because that is in my nature. I get competitive about everything.
“If I play a card game with my daughters, I’m winning. At Christmas we do all the games.
“My youngest daughter is 11 so we have to keep on doing those kinds of things. We play Snakes and Ladders, that’s always good. We also play Uno.”
Former striker Jimmy, who was born in Suriname, is determined to win Strictly despite being one of the oldest contestants. He added: “I’m going to give it a proper go.
“If you’re going to participate, you have to have a go and try to really be better,” he explained. “I know it’s in my blood that I’m going to want to be the best that I can be.
“When you have played sport at a really high level, you always want that edge. When I stopped playing football, I started playing other sports.
“I used to play squash, now I play paddle; dancing will replace that for now. If I like it, I will keep dancing.”
Jimmy has no dance experience, so he is worried about being a flop on the new series. He said: “I am more nervous about this than when I played in football games; I have no control.
“Hopefully I will get that. This is about learning something totally new and being out of my comfort zone and trying to achieve something.”
His comments come as the new series of the BBC fan favourite is just days away from kicking off. This year’s hopefuls are already making their final preparations ahead of the first show, but already the show is facing controversies.
In the run-up to the first episode of the show, reports found that some of the contestants on this year’s competition had their professional partners leaked before the premiere. To make matters worse, one of this year’s contestants —actress and legendary model Toyah Wilcox — admitted she had said no to two different professional partners before settling on her final partner.
