Jack Grealish faces an uncertain future at Manchester City, having been told he can leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, and now a Premier League club are stepping up their efforts to sign him
Everton has intensified its pursuit of Jack Grealish as the winger seeks to revive his stalled career. With Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola having shown him the exit door, Grealish’s prospects at the Etihad Stadium appear bleak.
Having been omitted from City’s Club World Cup squad in the USA, the 29 year old is still on the hunt for a new club with the season mere days away. However, Everton may provide him with a lifeline.
As reported by The Times, the Toffees are ramping up their efforts to bring Grealish to Goodison Park on a loan deal, with talks progressing in recent days. Manchester City is keen to offset as much of Grealish’s substantial £300k weekly wage as possible – a condition Everton seems willing to meet.
Grealish is also open to making the switch to Merseyside.
Earlier in the summer, Guardiola addressed Grealish’s future, stating: “It was a conversation between him and the club and they decide. Jack is an exceptional player, the only reason why he didn’t play last season is of course my decisions, and we decide that he has to play – and the club was honest, he was honest.”, reports the Mirror.
“We decide the best is that he has a place that he can feel he can play and come back to be the player that he was in the year of the treble or all his career at Aston Villa; without him it would have been impossible or more difficult to achieve the treble.
“The fact is the last two seasons he hasn’t played much minutes and he has to come back to play and get the butterflies back in his stomach that he can play every three days and show again the quality that he has.”
Should a deal materialise, Grealish could be Everton’s sixth summer signing. The Toffees have already sealed deals for Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Villarreal and Chelsea respectively.
Adam Aznou and Mark Travers have also made the switch, while Carlos Alcaraz’s loan stint from Flamengo has been made permanent. Moyes’ crew are still eyeing Southampton’s Tyler Dibling – the young lad was absent from the Saints’ Championship opener against Wrexham on Saturday.
Everton kick off their Premier League journey next weekend against newly-promoted Leeds United. Meanwhile, Man City start their campaign against Wolves at Molineux.
