Police are investigating after a man in his 40s is reported to have died at a scrapyard after an object fell on him. Initial reports suggest the man passed away from a heart attack
Police and health and safety experts are investigating after a man died at a scrapyard.
The man, in his 40s, died at the scene in Broadheath, Altrincham, according to police. A number of emergency vehicles were seen attending the site on Wednesday afternoon. There were responses from police, ambulance and fire crews to the scene where local business J Davidson Scrap operates. The adjacent Craven road was closed off by police. Reports indicate the man died from a heart attack after an object, believed to be a car, fell on him.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Emergency services were called to an incident at a business on Atlantic Street, Broadheath, at around 3.15pm yesterday.
“Sadly, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead. Enquiries are currently ongoing.”
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said: “We are aware and working with Greater Manchester Police.”
The man who died is believed to be the employee of a company based in Lithuania and did not work at J Davidson.
A spokesperson for J Davidson said according to The Sun: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the fatal incident on the 17th. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and loved ones affected by the loss.
“We are committed to offering support to the family and those affected. We are fully co-operating with the police and Health and Safety Executive (HSE).”
The spokesperson also said they were unable to comment on the cause of the incident because of the ongoing investigation.
It comes after a man lost his life after his his partner lost her footing and tragically tumbled on top of him.
The incident in August reportedly involved a 59-year-old man, described by locals as having a slender frame, was reportedly suffocated by his wife.
It is understood his wife – who is believed to weigh over 100kg (15st) – tripped while getting out of bed to reach her partner who was lying on the floor beside her. The woman’s terrified shrieks alerted neighbours as she became wedged between the bed and the wall – on top of her partner. The couple’s neighbours rushed to assist her after her fall.
The neighbours succeeded in lifting the woman off her husband but he had already lost consciousness by the time firefighters and paramedics turned up. Medical crews attempted to resuscitate the man once they arrived on the scene. Sadly the man suffered cardiac arrest rendering all efforts futile and passed away.
The woman’s weight reportedly proved crucial in preventing her from getting back up after she became stuck, reports the Mirror. While her exact weight remains unclear she has been characterised locally as “obese”. Local Portuguese media reported five men were required to lift her off her partner. The bizarre tragedy occurred in the residential area of Campanha on Porto’s outskirts.
