Lex Luger is one of the biggest names in the WWE game, but was left in a wheelchair following a serious spinal injury – but now, he has reclaimed his life by walking once again
One of WWE’s biggest stars has been able to regain the ability to walk again. It came after years of having to use a wheelchair to get by.
Lex Luger – whose real name is Lawrence Pfohl – was a huge star of WWE, earning a reputation for his impressive feats and fights in the ring. The 67-year-old also was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year after becoming one of the most recognisable faces of the sport.
But in 2007, Lex Luger suffered a heartbreaking injury that left him in a wheelchair for over a decade. However, in a new video uploaded to their social media, co-star and longtime friend Dallas Page has been able to revive Lex’s mobility and help him walk for the first time in 18 years.
Lex’s injury came when he suffered a trapped nerve that left him temporarily paralysed. Characterised as a spinal stroke, Lex was only able to get around in a wheelchair, having been left in a quadriplegic state with little to no movement in any of his limbs.
Over the next few years, Lex was able to stand on his own but by 2014, the former wrestling pro was having to use the wheelchair on a regular basis. By 2021, it was practically impossible for Lex to get around without using the wheelchair, becoming fully reliant on it for mobility.
However, in a video uploaded to his Instagram page, Dallas Page revealed that not only was Lex now able to stand up by himself without the help of a wheelchair, he could now walk unaided. He explained the gravity of the move left everyone in floods of tears.
Dallas, helping his good mate Lex through various forms of yoga, was able to help him get out of the wheelchair in a tear-jerking video. After some initial stumbles, Lex could be seen pushing himself entirely out of the wheelchair before standing for some seconds before leaning on the zimmerframe.
Speaking on the moment, a visibly emotional Dallas said: “To see him get up — because one time I asked him I said, ‘Just try to get some momentum and try to get up’, he couldn’t do it. Today he did it and I know he didn’t do it before that moment.
“I got choked up just thinking abut that, That was so powerful.”
Dallas would go on to smother Lex in praise, complimenting his work ethic to get his mobility back. He added that it would be just a matter of time before Lex will be able to get fully back to walking without the help of aids.
Several WWE fans were also left astounded as Lex was able to stand and walk for the first time in years, rushing to the comments section to congratulate Lex on his amazing feat. Many also praised Dallas for helping not only Lex, but hundreds of other wrestlers whose mobility has been shot as a result of their lengthy careers in the ring.
“I have followed Lex’s career since ’87, and always thought of him as NWA’s version of Hulk Hogan,” one commenter wrote. “I hope he will continue on, and be able to see him feel confident, and good enough to walk without having to use any of his equipment.”
A second added: “This will truly be the biggest achievement for both Dallas & Lex.” Whilst a third heaped praise on Dallas, adding: “DDP is a living legend, even better human being and I am in constant shock at what he can accomplish.”
