Images of the visit of Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm show Kim sporting the scandalous new look as his henchmen, all in tow, wore regular North Korean military regalia.
Kim visited the site, which is said to house everything from a “vegetable processing factory” to a “dissemination base” and “dewlling houses”, to thank workers for bringing “a development of Korean-style socialism” to the north of the country, according to PyonYang Times. He also promised to build more like-wise cities across the nation.
It’s not the first time Kim or his family have caused a stir in the fashion world. In 2022, the insecure autocrat banned citizens from wearing tight trousers – because he feared the garments were ‘indecent’.
A year earlier he cracked down on citizens wearing leather trench coats, seizing them in the street, claiming it was disrespectful to copy Kim Jong-un’s style.
Kim Jong-un’s young daughter is also said to fancy clothes. Kim Ju-ae’s lifestyle in the closed-off country is unusual in comparison to the majority of North Koreans, where she enjoys a luxury life of horse riding, skiing, and swimming, according to South Korean National Intelligence Services (NIS).
And the 10-year-old has also attracted the ire of the normal down trodden North Koreans for her fancy dress, according to reports. “It makes me angry,” an anonymous North Korean man was quoted by Radio Free Asia, “that our life is so hard. And Kim Ju-ae, who eats well and lives well, is always on TV in her fancy clothes!”
It comes as locals recently gathered en masse into city squares to declare their love for their exalted leader.
According to the Kim Jong-un-approved Pyongyang Times, the event was spared to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea and 77th anniversary of North Korean independence.
In various towns and cities, officials were on hand from “regional Party, power and economic organisations, working people’s organisations, industrial establishments, farms and universities, working people, youth and students”.
This saw senior officials read out “letters of loyalty to Kim Jong-un” which was then followed by “oath-taking speeches”.
They said that people at the events in North Hwanghae, Jagang and Kangwon province wrote letters to “reflect the boundless reverence for him who has glorified the Party as a genuine party of the people absolutely supported and trusted by the working masses”.
And as if that wasn’t bizarre enough, those in South and North Hamgyong and Ryanggang praise Jong-un because, they claim, he “has put the fame and prestige of an independent power on the highest level in the century and ushered in a new era of overall development of socialism and a new era of creation and transformation on this land with his outstanding ideas, extraordinary leadership and indefatigable devotion”.
