King Charles had been speaking with 116-year-old Ethel Caterham just before he waved off President Donald Trump, but was left in stitches when she gave him some raunchy advice
King Charles has met a British woman who has become the world’s oldest living person. She gave the monarch some much-needed advice on how to stay young, including one rather raunchy tidbit.
The monarch, 76, was visiting a local care home in Lightwater in Surrey on Thursday (September 18) when Charles met Ethel Caterham, currently aged 116. He made a flying visit to the establishment before rushing back to London to bid farewell to Donald Trump as he left the UK after his state visit.
Ethel is now believed to be the world’s oldest living person after Brazilian nun Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas tragically passed away in April. When the pair met, it was clear Charles was interested in speaking with her as he beamed with delight and introduced himself whilst holding her hand.
The 116-year-old was equally as thrilled to meet King Charles and grinned from ear to ear as the pair reminisced about the late Queen Elizabeth. Ethel, who was sporting a pair of gold fur-lined sequined slippers and a sage dress with a pink shawl, also remembered fondly when the Queen confirmed him as the Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle.
Both Ethel and Charles then proceeded to joke about Charles’ ravishing looks at the time when he was crowned in 1969, the Daily Mail reported. Ethel revealed to Charles, who was 21 at the time of his investiture: “All the girls were in love with you and wanted to marry you.”
The monarch then went on to burst into a fit of laughter, as Ethel’s granddaughter Kate chimed in: “You were saying that the other day, weren’t you? You said ‘Prince Charles was so handsome. All the girls were in love with him; a true prince – and now the King.'”
Eager to get in on the fun, Charles himself cracked a sly dig at himself, explaining: “Yes well, all that’s left of him anyway.” The room then burst into a large bouts of laughter as the pair continued to chat and enjoy each other’s company.
King Charles’ visit came following Ethel’s 116th birthday earlier this year. Having initially said she would only spend the day with family in a quiet manner, she did admit she would break ranks and allow herself to celebrate with the King.
Just a matter of weeks later, Charles confirmed he would be marking the special occasion, travelling to Surrey to see her especially. During the pair’s chat, the duo also reminisced of a time Ethel was invited to a garden tea party at Buckingham Palace in the 1960s.
Ethel is tied heavily to the royal family and is a firm fan of the King, having received two cards celebrating her 100th birthday from both Charles and his mother, Elizabeth. Charles also sent his own 116th birthday card to Ethel after she reached the milestone on August 21, personally signing it for her.
Throughout her life, Ethel faced a slew of hardship after being born in 1909. Having met her husband Norman in 1931, at the age of 28, he sadly passed away in 1976, leaving her heartbroken.
On top of this, Ethel was able to survive both the Spanish flu and Covid pandemic, even catching the deadly disease in 2020, but surviving. However, she admitted she still has many ways to keep herself busy, including playing bridge, well into her 100s.
