You’ve got to sausage roll with it – hungry Gen Z house-hunters want a gaff near a Greggs.

New research has found that having the bakery on the doorstep is a top draw for young house-hunters.

A study has shown that younger Brits have different priorities than traditional amenities, such as schools and transport links.

They would much rather be closer to pubs, cafes and shops and bakeries – like steak bake kings Greggs.

The analysis was carried out by online estate agency Purplebricks.

Sales Director Tom Evans said: “We’ll certainly be advising our estate agents to be clued up on where the local Greggs are after these findings.”

Newcastle was named as the UK’s pasty paradise, with 13 branches concentrated in just 0.92 square miles of its central NE1 district.

It is the postcode with the most Greggs and the ideal area also includes the university, railway station and St James’ Park football ground.

Joint second is the Manchester M1 postcode and Leeds LS1 with eight Greggs, joint fourth is Liverpool L1 and Glasgow G1 with seven.

More than a third (36%) of Gen Z say having a Greggs on the doorstep was better than an independent cafe or rival chain like Costa (24%), Starbucks (14%) or Pret (7%).

The bakery chain has 2,618 outlets across the UK but young adults aged between 18 to 28 might have Glasgow on their radar.

It boasts 53 branches across the city and homes averaging £187,372.

London has 42 Greggs but might price out many young buyers with the average property priced at £561,000, according to the most recent House Price Index report.

Other Greggs-heavy cities include Newcastle with 30, Edinburgh with 29, Leeds with 27, Manchester with 24 and Liverpool with 23 branches.
