The UK is set to see a burst of warm weather to start the month, with temperatures reaching 20C in parts of the country. Here are the 10 hottest UK cities on the warmest day

As October kicks off, Britain is set to enjoy a burst of hot weather, with forecasters predicting temperatures could reach up to 20C in some parts of the country.

Weather maps from WXCharts indicate that Wednesday, October 1, will bring the best of the autumn sunshine, particularly across southern and southeastern England.

London and its surrounding areas could bask in highs of 20C, while much of the Midlands is expected to hit 18C-19C.

This stands in stark contrast to the cooler conditions anticipated in the north and west, where locations such as Newcastle, Belfast and Glasgow are predicted to hover between 14C and 15C. According to the Met Office, the start of the month will see a northwest-southeast divide.

Rain and strong winds are likely in northwestern regions, while the southeast remains largely dry and bright. However, this warm spell may be fleeting.

The Met Office warns that Hurricane Humberto, although expected to lose its tropical characteristics as it moves into the North Atlantic, could still influence the UK’s weather patterns, reports the Express.

This could usher in a more unsettled and windy period around the first weekend of October.

Beyond this, the forecast becomes less predictable due to the potential for further Atlantic storm activity. Nevertheless, forecasters suggest the general outlook indicates wetter, windier spells in the north, with longer dry periods further south.

Overall, temperatures are predicted to stay close to or slightly above average, although southern counties may experience colder nights and foggy mornings as the month progresses.

For the time being, the prospect of sunshine and highs of 20C provides a final hint of summer before autumn truly takes hold.

Here are the 10 hottest UK cities on October 1:

  • London – 20°C
