The delivery giant said the new jobs will be split across two parcel hubs, four seasonal parcel sorting centres and 37 mail centres across the country

Royal Mail has unveiled plans to bring on board roughly 20,000 seasonal staff to bolster deliveries during the hectic Christmas rush.

The postal behemoth revealed these fresh positions will be distributed across two parcel hubs, four festive sorting facilities and 37 mail centres nationwide.

The company explained this recruitment drive will enable it to handle the Christmas shopping frenzy spanning Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the festive season.

England will see 12,000 mail centre sorting positions become available, with Scotland offering 2,000, Wales providing 600 and Northern Ireland contributing 400, according to the firm.

The postal service also confirmed there will be 3,000 delivery and collection positions throughout the UK, alongside 2,000 temporary HGV and MGV driving roles.

Royal Mail plans to establish four additional seasonal sorting hubs in Atherstone, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Daventry to boost its delivery capacity.

Jamie Stephenson, Royal Mail’s interim chief operating officer, commented: “As we do every year, we will be pulling out all the stops to make Christmas special for our customers.

“It’s the busiest time for us, and we work tirelessly behind the scenes – planning months in advance – to ensure everything runs smoothly.

“From delivering festive parcels to supporting online shopping, we’re investing heavily in extra resources, including thousands of seasonal team members, to help make sure every delivery arrives on time and with care.”

These temporary positions will span from late October right through to early January 2026.
