The man had been at an 18th birthday party in Huyton when he was attacked

Police have provided a fresh update following a horrific assault that left a man with his hand “cut clean off”. It was previously reported how the victim had been attending an 18th birthday celebration on Friday, September 26, at a property on Colin Close, Huyton, when the shocking incident unfolded.

He subsequently fled to the Stanley Arms on Roby Road, situated directly opposite the party venue, just after midnight on Saturday, September 27. Pub staff tended to the casualty, with one eyewitness describing how his hand had been “cut clean off” as he stumbled into the establishment.

The venue was on the verge of closing, with workers believed to be mere seconds from securing the entrance, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Merseyside Police had previously detained an 18 year old man on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and section 18 wounding with intent.

Officers also apprehended a 15 year old lad on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

In today’s update, Tuesday, September 30, Merseyside Police confirmed that both the adult and the teenager have been released on conditional bail whilst investigations continue.

The wounded man remains hospitalised and enquiries are still underway. Local residents informed the ECHO that there had been a celebration on the evening of Friday, September 26, with an 18th birthday banner displayed on the front entrance of the house where the attack is thought to have occurred.

Just after midnight, the victim burst into the pub, with officers confirming he had sustained a “potentially life-changing” injury, whilst a 17 year old girl also received a minor hand wound in the incident.

Another source revealed the man rushed into the pub with “part of his arm hacked off”. Dried blood could be seen on the door frame and doorstep of the property on Colin Close as officers worked the scene.

A substantial police presence has remained at the location throughout the weekend and into today, with forensic teams examining the premises and surrounding area.

The pub stayed closed on Saturday whilst specialist cleaners dealt with the scene. One witness said: “There was blood everywhere and the pub was seconds away from locking the doors when he ran in.”

A local resident described seeing a large crowd gathered in the alleyway beside the houses on Colin Close, which links Roby Road and Lawton Road. He said: “I was watching the aftermath of the Ryder Cup and I just saw this large group of young people appear in the alleyway just after midnight. They were there behind the houses and there was more than 10 but I couldn’t be certain how many exactly.”

The nearby resident said it remained peaceful through the night despite the attack and it’s typically a “quiet area”.

A spokesperson for The Stanley Arms said: “On Friday night our team were called on to help a local member of the community who came into our venue after closing time seeking help for a serious injury. Emergency services were called and the individual received treatment.”
