Taylor Swift’s former bandmate Emily Poe Stumler opens up about the singer in a new Channel 4 documentary

Channel 4 is set to explore Taylor Swift’s meteoric rise to stardom in a fresh docuseries aptly named Taylor.

Hitting the screens tonight (September 30) at 9.15pm, the documentary delves deep into the pop sensation’s two-decade-long career, featuring insights from her ex-staff, music industry insiders and die-hard fans.

Musician Emily Poe Stumler is among those sharing their experiences in the documentary. Swifties will recognise Emily as Taylor’s former fiddle player, who shared the stage with the star between 2006 and 2007.

The former bandmate witnessed the singer’s rise to fame and shares her unique perspective in the documentary.

In the first episode of the series, Emily reminisces about her old boss being “incredibly driven and incredibly determined” at the dawn of her career, reports the Mirror.

She goes on to paint a vivid picture of their touring days. “In 2007, we did 300-ish shows. We lived on a tour bus that had been previously owned by Cher so it was decked out in leopard print,” the bandmate revealed to Channel 4.

But life on the road was far from glitzy, with the pair bunking up together – Taylor on the top bed and Emily kipping below. “It sort of was like having a little sister that was also your boss,” Emily added.

Despite still being an up-and-comer, Emily recalls Taylor spending “hours and hours” signing autographs for fans.

She continued: “[Taylor] was somebody who always knew what she wanted. I would see her being interviewed constantly [and] speaking to radio stations or signing autographs.

“She would sign autographs for anyone as long as they were willing to stand and wait for her. Sometimes that lasted hours and hours.”

Elsewhere in the documentary, the singer’s former manager Rick Barker also chimed in with kind words, recalling her considerate nature during her pre-fame years.

“She wanted people to feel better when she left than before she arrived,” he said.

The docuseries’ official synopsis teases: “Taylor will dig deep across the musician’s 20-year career, a period that has seen her transcend the realm of pop star to become a cultural icon like no other.”

It adds: “Through interviews with high-profile commentators, industry insiders and fans, the documentary examines the forces that have shaped her trajectory and the devoted community she has inspired.”

Taylor premieres on Channel 4 at 9:15pm tonight (Tuesday 30th September).
