Philpott, who was jailed for life after setting fire to his home with six kids inside, was reportedly brutalised in prison

A wicked father who murdered six of his own children in a house fire has allegedly been left bloodied and battered following a vicious assault behind bars. More than six months have passed since news of the attack on Mick Philpott first surfaced.

Philpott received a life sentence in April 2013 after jurors at Nottingham Crown Court found him guilty on six manslaughter charges for orchestrating the deadly fire at his council property in Derby during May 2012.

He hatched the horrific plot alongside his wife Mairead Philpott and accomplice Paul Mosley, whose death was announced Tuesday, October 7.

Both Mosley and Mairead Philpott were also found guilty of six manslaughter counts and handed 17-year sentences by Mrs Justice Kate Thirlwall KC. The trio were held accountable for the deaths of Duwayne Philpott, 13, Jade, 10, John, nine, Jack, eight, Jessie, six and Jayden, five.

Philpott, who had a track record of domestic violence, enlisted his spouse and Mosley to assist him in setting the fatal fire at the family residence on Victory Road.

According to The Sun in March this year, an insider revealed that Philpott was left “battered”, “bruised” and “in a bad way” following the prison assault at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

The anonymous source alleged that another inmate had ambushed Philpott from behind whilst he was on a landing, before prison officers intervened to halt the violence.

Philpott was reportedly feeling extremely sorry for himself in the aftermath. While this perpetrator remains behind bars, both Mairead Philpott and Mosley have since been released.

Mairead Philpott, sentenced to 17 years, was freed in 2020 after serving half her sentence. Mosley was granted release from HMP Durham on licence in January of the previous year, as confirmed by the Ministry of Justice.

Hampshire Police have confirmed the death of a 58-year-old man at a property in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on Saturday. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Philpott had masterminded the arson plot with the intention of framing his ex-partner for the attack. However, the plan disastrously backfired when the house erupted into an enormous blaze.

Mrs Justice Thirlwall stated that the children’s deaths were “mercifully” quick and seemingly “without pain”. She characterised Philpott as “disturbingly dangerous” and utterly devoid of a moral compass.

The judge noted that while Philpott did not intend to cause serious harm to the children, he had planned to subject them to a horrifying ordeal from which he intended to save them, thereby portraying himself as a hero.
