Stars who signed up for The Celebrity Traitors were warned they wouldn’t get any special treatment. Producers warned they would be treated just like regular contestants
Stars went through hell while filming the celebrity version of The Traitors. Bosses refused to give contestants including Stephen Fry and Alan Carr any special treatment just because they’re famous.
Exec producer Mike Cotton said: “We do a lot of prep with anyone who comes to take part in this show about what the experience is going to be and what that involves.
“We were really clear with all the celebrities about that. We said, ‘If you’re going to come and take part in the show, this is the process that’s involved.
“So everyone knew what they were coming to do.”
The famous faces were warned competing on the show would be tough.
Mike added: “The game is intense and it’s designed to be intense.
“It becomes a pressure cooker for contestants. That’s what makes the game so good.”
Bosses had psychologists at the show’s castle in case the celebrities hit breaking point.
They were on call 24 hours a day.
Mike said: “We have a huge welfare and psych team that is watching every single thing we film.
“Someone can get upset about the game, but when we think they could be at risk of mental health or their welfare or it’s getting personal, that’s when they would step in.”
The series kicks off October 8 at 9pm on BBC One.
Host Claudia Winkleman has revealed there was plenty of tension during filming.
She said: “The celebrities forgot they were on camera… they were just focussed on playing the game. Did the round tables get heated? Yeah.
“The Faithfuls want to catch the Traitors. And the Traitors want to remain undetected. Both parties were excellent at what they were doing.
“There are lots of surprises in this series. Absolutely. There are some shocks.
“We had no idea how it was going to go. But you have to have faith in the game.”
Claudia struggled to cope with the nerves at times.
She added: “When you’re at the round table, it’s incredibly tense. The minute you walk in to that room, the mood automatically changes.
“You can tell how nervous I am on this series by how much white lipstick I’m wearing and how orange I am!”
