Blackpool is known for its £1 burgers, and one foodie decided to sample the budget-friendly treat. But his four-word review might surprise you
Finding a filling meal for just £1 can be quite the challenge these days, with even a Greggs sausage roll setting you back around £1.25. That’s why tourists are often overjoyed when they stumble upon Blackpool’s renowned £1 burger.
The seaside town is home to several food stalls offering £1 burgers, prompting one visitor to try one out and see what all the hype was about.
Food reviewer Laurence, known for his regular meal and product reviews on his @letstestlaurence social media accounts, recently made his first ever trip to Blackpool. Kicking off his video, he announced: “Today we’ve come to Blackpool to try the famous £1 burger. Popular for their price, and location by the seaside. Let’s go in and give it a try.”
Laurence set his sights on Primeburger, one of the local joints serving up the budget-friendly burgers. Higgitt’s Las Vegas Arcade is another well-known spot for cheap eats, having dished out affordable burgers for years.
However, as it had closed for the day, Laurence opted for Primeburger, where a basic burger rings in at just £1. A cheeseburger costs £1.50, a double cheeseburger is priced at £2.50, or you can snag a giant hot dog for £2.
Taking to TikTok, Laurence quipped: “London could never, with these prices.”
He went on to order a £1 burger with onions, slathered some tomato sauce on top, and headed to the promenade to taste test it – while steering clear of the hungry seagulls. After taking a bite, Laurence commented: “It’s obviously a very simple burger. You can see some of the onions in there. Nice and hot.”
After noting the mere pound price tag, he delivered a surprising four-word verdict: “You can’t beat that.”
He further endorsed his view, stating: “Again, for a quid, this is quite excellent. It’s hot, savoury, bit of ketchup in there, onions. It’s honestly very good.”
The comments section was filled with people sharing their thoughts. While many suggested a visit to the famed Higgitt’s, one person shared: “Yeah I had this and it is actually £1 and onions are free but it is £1.50 for a cheeseburger but deffo recommend. It was delicious.
“It does look good for a £1,” another chimed in.
Another user posted: “Food looks great. I would try it out like, who doesn’t like a good burger.”
However, someone else countered: “The other one is way better, that’s the original.”
Content creator Spencer, also known as Gully, from @lifeatgully, also sampled Higgitt’s and shared his experience online. Gully ordered a £1 burger with onions and ketchup.
While waiting, he asked the owner if he planned to “move away from the £1 burger” after gaining online fame, to which the owner emphatically responded “No, no, no!”.
Gully then tasted the burger, jokingly biting into it “with caution” because “it was ready in about eight seconds”. However, he was pleasantly surprised by the taste.
“It’s actually not bad. I don’t think they’re too bad. I’m not even going to complain about it. Decent.”
