Strictly Come Dancing star Balvinder Sopal has taken to social media to break her silence after she and professional partner Julian Callion found themselves in the dance-off
Balvinder Sopal has spoken out after landing in the second Strictly Come Dancing dance-off of the series alongside professional partner Julian Callion.
The EastEnders actress found herself with the lowest public votes, alongside Lorraine presenter Ross King, forcing the two celebrities into a nerve-wracking dance-off.
The judging panel – comprising Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke – then cast their votes to save one couple, ultimately sending Ross and his dance partner Jowita Przystał home as the second pair to exit the competition.
Balvinder posted an emotional message on social media reflecting on her Movie Week routine, calling it a “proud moment” that she described as “magical”.
“About last night; another first, not only because it was Movie week on Strictly, which was insane and everyone was so brilliant – but also because I was able to step into a world I would never have ever gotten the chance to in my acting career,” the soap actress wrote, reports Kent Live.
Balvinder went on: “Anyone who knows me knows that, aside from being a huge Strictly fan, I am also a huge fan of period drama. Call the Midwife, in 2017, was the closest I got to starring/leading in a period drama.
“Last night, though, I was given the opportunity to play centre stage and glide into the glamour of 1930s Hollywood – the golden era of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. It was a proud moment to emulate their timeless style and dance the Foxtrot to The Way You Look Tonight, by Frank Sinatra. Inspired by the iconic duo, we brought you a classic foxtrot infused with grace, elegance, and sophistication.”
The actress went on to reveal that “trying to remember steps, frame, and routine isn’t easy”, confessing: “But what I do know is that it felt magical and I adored every second of our dance. We hope you all got as much pleasure from our foxtrot as much as we did dancing it.”
She wrapped up her heartfelt message by praising Julian, expressing gratitude for his “patience” and “energy”, whilst also thanking devoted Strictly supporters for backing her, describing herself as “eternally grateful” for the “opportunity of a lifetime”.
Admirers rushed to praise Balvinder on her performance, with one gushing: “Utter stylish beauty. So smooth across that dance floor. What an amazing Team you two really are.
“Such a beautiful dance, full of grace and elegance… a joy to see. You certainly showed us how much you enjoyed it too… with your beautiful smile,” another enthused.
A third supporter chimed in: “Love this! You both embodied elegance and danced so beautifully, all 5 votes for you both every time.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday and Strictly’s Results Show airs on Sunday on BBC One.
