Victoria Sorocean was hiding in the United States after she was convicted of murder and sentenced to 17 years in jail back in 2013 in her native nation of Moldova

A woman convicted of brutally torturing her victim before hurling them from a ninth-floor window, has been apprehended by US immigration officials. This marks the end of a 12-year manhunt that spanned continents and highlighted weaknesses in international law enforcement.

Victoria Sorocean was arrested on November 4 in Los Angeles by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. After being sentenced to 17 years in a Moldovan prison for premeditated murder committed with exceptional cruelty in 2013, she evaded justice by fleeing her homeland immediately after the verdict.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced her capture today, putting an end to her time spent hiding across the United States. Court records from Chisinau recount a night of deliberate terror in a small flat. Sorocean and an accomplice cornered their victim, delivering blows with a wooden stick and electrical cable that ripped flesh and broke bones.

At the height of the assault, they dragged the victim to the balcony and pushed them over the edge, causing them to plummet nine storeys to the pavement below with fatal consequences. The horrific brutality of the crime ensured her conviction, but Sorocean fled shortly thereafter, reports the Express.

She managed to enter the United States illegally soon after, avoiding capture until ICE officers caught her on January 10, 2020. A flurry of asylum claims and legal appeals delayed her deportation, leading to her release in 2022.

For the following four years, she remained hidden in the shadows of Los Angeles until a tip-off sparked a rapid ICE operation. Officers swooped in, apprehending her within moments for the journey back to federal detention.

DHS celebrated the raid as a victory against the surge of violent fugitives, highlighting the enormous pressure on a system buckling under backlogs.

Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DHS, issued a scathing condemnation in today’s statement: “It shocks the conscience that the Biden Administration released into America a cruel, violent illegal alien who tortured a human being, beat them with an electrical cable and a stick, and then threw her victim from a ninth-floor window.

“These are the types of barbaric criminal illegal aliens ICE is targeting every single day. 70% of all ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the US.

“This does not even include foreign fugitives like this convicted murderer. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, the world’s criminals are no longer welcome in the US.”
