With Andrew Mountbatten Windsor now set to be ousted out of the Royal Lodge by the end of the year, Sarah Ferguson’s relocation plans have started to come under question
As Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been stripped of his title and soon his royal lodgings, attention now turns to Sarah Ferguson and where she’ll live after being turfed out.
She and her former husband are now being told to vacate their plush Windsor Royal Lodge, with Andrew believed to have secured a pad in the Sandringham estate. Although, it is believed that Sarah will not be following suit.
Sarah has stayed quiet about her thoughts on the scandal that has engulfed her and her former husband, but sources close to her say she is “devastated.”
It is now being rumoured that Sarah could be planning to relocate to Portugal, where her daughter Princess Eugenie and son-in-law Jack Brooksbank have a part-time £3.6million mansion by the sea. The couple purchased their luxurious property at the Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club resort in Melides, where Jack works, back in May 2022.
With a potential overseas move in the pipeline, Jennie Bond, a former BBC Royal correspondent, thinks this could be telling of the relationship between Sarah and her ex-husband.
Speaking to the Mirror, she said: “I am surprised that it seems Sarah and Andrew are now going their separate ways.
“I thought they were joined at the hip, even though no longer in a romantic relationship. Sarah has always been so fiercely loyal to Andrew, defending him even in the face of the most sordid allegations; perhaps she no longer believes him, or perhaps Andrew now wants to be on his own.”
The royal ousting stemmed from Andrew’s association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew faced allegations of sexual relations with Virginia Giuffre, who was 17 at the time. Giuffre claimed she was trafficked by businessman Epstein and circulated among his friends for sex.
Andrew vehemently denies all allegations brought against him.
Following Andrew’s alleged ties to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, many are questioning the Royal status and public standing of their daughters Beatrice and Eugenie.
Whilst neither princess has ever spoken publicly about Andrew’s scandal, they’re said to be privately backing Andrew and Fergie.
Nevertheless, Bond reckons that Eugenie’s proposal for Fergie to relocate to her Portugal residence shouldn’t shock anyone. She explained: “I don’t think many people would criticise a loving daughter for helping her mother.
“Whatever else you say about Sarah and, indeed Andrew, they have been good parents who have somehow created a very strong and unified household despite their divorce.”
It comes as Sarah remains in hiding after she was recently implicated into the Epstein case, after correspondence with the convicted sex offender was made public. An email from 2011 found that Fergie called Epstein a “supreme friend”, despite denouncing him in the press.
The BBC reports: “A spokesperson for the duchess said her subsequent email to Epstein, describing him as a friend, was written to counter a threat from him to sue her for defamation – and that she still really regretted any association with him.
As Fergie remains in exile following the emergence of her email to Epstein, the Royal commentator Bond thinks a move overseas makes perfect sense for the former Duchess.
“A move to Portugal was something I always thought could be on the cards,” Bond remarked. “It seems so logical: a beautiful place, a loving daughter and space to call her own. Jack and Eugenie only live there part-time, so it could work out very well.”
