Heathrow recorded its busiest October on record thanks to a ‘bumper half-term’.
The airport said 7.4m passengers passed through it last month – up 2.1 per cent compared with a year earlier.
The hub noted a surge in demand for flights to European cities such as Brussels, Lyon and Vienna. Heathrow’s two runways are being used at almost full capacity.
The airport said it is responding this week to the Government’s request for further information about its expansion proposals, which include building a full-length 3,500-metre runway and moving the M25 motorway.
It described this as the ‘only option that can deliver growth for the whole country’.
Chief executive Thomas Woldbye said: ‘The numbers speak for themselves.’
Take-off: Heathrow said 7.4m passengers passed through its four terminals last month – up 2.1% on a year earlier
