The helicopter’s pilots believed they were being pursued by an unidentified craft at high speed, and now newly released police logs have cast doubt on the official explanation
A police chopper was reportedly forced to take ’emergency evasive action’ after being ‘targeted’ by a UFO over a US air base in the UK. Officials claimed the close encounter was merely with a passing fighter jet – but newly released incident logs have thrown this into doubt, indicating something much more mysterious and potentially terrifying.
A National Police Air Service EC135 helicopter was said to have narrowly avoided a collision with the unidentified flying object in airspace around RAF Lakenheath, a US military base in England. Pilots believed their chopper was being targeted by what appeared to be an unmanned craft, during weeks of reports of similar UFO sightings.
The incident took place almost exactly a year ago on November 22, 2024, at a time when they were frequent reports of drones and unidentified objects invading airspace over US military bases in New Jersey, the wider northeast region, and outside of the US.
At the time, a report by a UK aviation safety board claimed the helicopter’s pilots had merely mistaken an American F-15 jet for something else. But UK police logs released under the Freedom of Information Act point to hi-tech drones appearing to deliberately pursue the chopper at high speed – while analysts say an F-15 that was in the area at the time may have been pursuing the UFOs.
The helicopter pilots “were forced to take emergency evasive action in relation to a drone which came within a dangerously close proximity to them”, reported an incident log from Suffolk Police, obtained by the Daily Mail via researcher Rowland Hume.
“They had to perform an emergency dive and described that they were pursued in the dive by two drones who matched their speed approx 165 knots and then pursued them for several minutes out of the area.
“They feel that drones have targeted them and chased them off at approx 140 knots [161mph].”
After scouring footage captured by the helicopter’s infrared camera, a UK military source poured doubt on official claims it was merely an F-15. The insider said there was no mention of F-15s from the pilot audio throughout the 30-minute video, that the drones were aping the helicopter’s movements at high speed and appeared to be trying to force it out of the air, and that one object was performing manoeuvres beyond a fighter jet’s capability.
“A fixed-wing craft is caught on the video, where you can see a corkscrew move,” the source told the Mail. “An F-15 cannot make a small corkscrew turn like that.”
Police incident logs from November 20-22, 2024 highlight a string of drone sightings across RAF Feltwell, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall – all bases used by the US Air Force in England.
A Suffolk Police log from November 21 read: “Over past 2 nights there have been approx 20 drones flying over RAF’s Mildenhall, Feltwell and Lakenheath. This has been between 1800-0000 hrs.”
Appearing to refer to reports from UK military police, the log added: “They report that due to the size of said drones, the pilots could be ‘miles and miles’ away.”
The log added: “Mildenhall/Lakenheath/Feltwell – believed 10-15 drones have been at each one – and appear not to be ‘hobby drones’.”
A police report from Lakenheath said an officer with night vision goggles saw five to six drones, while the logs also recorded witness reports of ‘tictac’-shaped objects – a similar shape to those reported in a famous 2004 sighting.
A crime report from November 21 described “10-15 drones flying around bases and potentially into the base airspace”.
It added: “This is third occurrence this week according to MOD police and US base have stated they have had to ground aircraft due to going across flightpaths.”
The investigation was reportedly handed over to The UK Ministry of Defence Police, which has not published its findings.
British meteorologist Stuart Onyeche, who works for a defence company and has researched the incident, cast further doubt on the official report claiming the only craft near to the chopper was a fighter jet. He told the Mail that while there was undoubtedly an F-15 in the area at the time, he believed the jet may have been pursuing the UFOs.
“It’s unarguable that an F-15 was also in the vicinity as reported in the airprox, but an unanswered question is what was the F-15 being tasked to do or look for?’ he said. “Were the helicopter and F-15 in fact both converging on the unidentified ‘drones’?”
