The Premier League have issued an explanation as Nottingham Forest were left furious when Igor Jesus was deemed to have handled the ball in the build-up to a goal
Liverpool were lucky not to find themselves two goals behind against Nottingham Forest with Arne Slot’s side lost at sea again on Saturday.
The Reds, who had started the brightest of the two sides, found themselves behind the Sean Dyche’s strugglers. And a couple of minutes later, Forest thought they had doubled their lead through Igor Jesus.
The Brazilian smashed the ball into the bottom corner, beating the returning Allison, only to stopped in his tracks by Andy Madley – who deemed Jesus had handled the ball in the build-up.
And after VAR agreed with the decision, fans were left furious on social media.
However, the Premier League’s Match Centre account has offered an explanation: “The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Jesus accidentally handled the ball before scoring.”
Speaking on BBC’s Final Score, John Bennett said: “This has been disallowed. I thought initially it was for a foul because I can’t see the handball.
“It was a lovely finish from Jesus into the corner of the net. Liverpool are rattled.”
While Ashley Williams fumed: “I’m seeing two angles of the goal and on neither angle can I see the where it touches the arm at all. It his Jesus between the chest and the stomach. That goal should stand.”
Martin Keown agreed with his colleagues: “It looks like the ball came up and hit Jesus on his ribcage. Surely VAR have seen something to chalk it off. I can’t see the hand.”
And Paul Robinson added: “They are susceptible. You can see that Liverpool are a team lacking confidence at the moment.”
The decision comes after Liverpool were left furious at PGMOL when they saw a goal chalked off against Manchester City.
The Reds launched a complaint to PGMOL and did not accept, according to the wording of the rules, that the relevant criteria for an offence was met for referee Chris Kavanagh to disallow the goal.
