Strictly Come Dancing fans were left distracted just minutes into the BBC show as they questioned a star’s bold new look

BBC Strictly Come Dancing made its return to our television screens this evening (Saturday, November 22), yet viewers found themselves distracted just minutes into the programme as they called out one celebrity’s striking new appearance.

The BBC show has now entered its ninth week, with the surviving contestants delivering their performances live from the iconic Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

Every year the programme relocates alongside presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the judging panel, the famous faces and their professional dance partners, to transmit the beloved show live from the coastal resort.

Just six pairs participated in this week’s episode following RuPaul’s Drag Race UK personality La Voix being compelled to withdraw due to injury.

Yet it was one particular moment that had everyone talking. Prior to the celebrities gracing the dance floor, the show opened with a medley showcase from Steps that fans hailed as the “best opening ever”, reports Wales Online.

The group was joined by the Strictly professional dancers, delivering a routine to their chart-topper Summer of Love before transitioning into a selection of their hits.

Home viewers were swift to highlight band member Ian “H” Watkins’ daring new style, with many claiming he bore a resemblance to twin siblings and X Factor personalities Jedward.

One posted on X, previously Twitter: “Has H come dressed as jedward? #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.” Another remarked: “#Strictly I thought one of Jedward had snuck into Steps but it was actually just H.”

A third commented: “H starring as Jedward… #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.” A fourth questioned: How long as one of Jedward been in steps. “

Another enquired: “Jedward joined STEPs! When did that happen? #Strictly.” Meanwhile many viewers were delighted to see the band on the programme as one remarked: “Can’t beat a bit of Steps! Great start to the show! #Strictly.”

Another posted: “Best opening of #Strictly EVER! ! .” One observed: “Okay Steps! ! That was so good! ! #Strictly.” Meanwhile one added: “Great opening to #strictly tonight #Blackpool #steps.”

During the programme, internet sensation George Clarke and Alexis Warr were tackling salsa to Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now) by Bob Sinclair.

Meanwhile soap actor Lewis Cope and Katya Jones were performing the Charleston to I Bet You Look Good On The dance floor by the Arctic Monkeys.

Reality TV personality Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin were executing a quickstep to Reach by S Club 7 and there was also a paso doble from former Lioness Karen Carney and Carlos Gu to O Fortuna from the cantata Carmina Burana, composed by the German composer Carl Orff.

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
