A baby has been discovered in the water at a city park, sparking a major police investigation. The 15-month-old baby was rescued by a member of the public after being found in the water at Boultham Park, Lincoln, last night.
Lincolnshire Police have confirmed they are currently concentrating their investigation on how the infant ended up in the water, though a teenager has been arrested on suspicion of neglect. The baby was discovered in a “small body of water” which flows from the lake towards the St Catherine’s area of Lincoln. A passer-by pulled the youngster from the water and contacted the emergency services.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been driving or walking along the St Catherine’s Road and Newark Road area between 8.45pm and 9.30pm on 21 August to check their dashcam footage. Officers are urging people to see if they captured anyone in the area with a pushchair, or anyone on a bike.
Lincolnshire Police are also asking for any dog walkers who may have been in the area at the time to come forward. They are also looking to hear from anyone who may have heard dogs barking in the area, reports Yorkshire Live.
The police said: “Our investigation in to how a baby came to be in water in Boultham Park, Lincoln last night (Thursday, 21 August) is ongoing. Our focus is currently on the circumstances of how the baby entered the water, which was one of the smaller bodies of water leading from the lake towards the St Catherine’s area of the city.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have been driving or walking along the St Catherine’s Road and Newark Road area between 8.45pm and 9.30pm last night (Thursday 21 August) to check dashcam footage, and see if it has captured anyone walking in that area with a push chair or anyone on a bike.
“We are also keen to hear from any dog walkers who may have been in the area at those times, or hear from anyone who may have hard dogs barking. At this stage, any small piece of information with be incredibly valuable to our detectives.”
The passer-by who discovered the infant acted swiftly to alert the emergency services and the baby is currently receiving treatment in hospital. Fortunately, the baby has not sustained any serious injuries.
A 17 year old lad has been arrested on suspicion of neglect. He remains in police custody and is being questioned.
