A block of flats going up in south London is hoping to hook in health-conscious home buyers by offering them a rooftop shrine to wellbeing and relaxation. The HiLight development is being built on the site of a former candle factory in Battersea, on the banks of the Thames.

It will have, according to property developer Ghelamco, the capital’s first residential rooftop to offer a ‘dedicated suite of private amenities’ aimed at helping residents feel zen or work on their ‘toxin elimination.’ After a long day toiling away at work, residents at the block will be able to enjoy IV-drip infusions to order in their flat. A spokesperson for the developer told the Daily Mail that the IV drips will be available around the clock.

Residents willing to go the extra step for the sake of their wellbeing will be able to zoom up to the rooftop for a vitamin C-infused shower, some ‘functional mushroom drinks and vitamin gummies’, an ice bath or some time in an infrared or salt therapy sauna pod. The rooftop’s health hub will also have Finnish saunas set to a toasty 85 to 95 degrees Celsius ‘for maximum therapeutic impact.’

A further four ‘wellness pods’ will be dedicated to ‘gentle thermal therapy and deep relaxation.’ Within one of the pods there will be a dry spa equipped with chromotherapy lighting. Blue light is aimed at easing stress and lower blood pressure, while green is designed to calm anxiety and red is believed to boost energy, circulation and mood, the firm behind the development said. Different ‘calming scents’ will also be used across the rooftop spaces, and there will also be ‘scent-driven events’ on offer to residents.

Residents will also be able to make use of the block’s ‘grounding area.’ This, the developer said, is being designed ‘for earthing, barefoot connection to natural elements to reduce stress and anxiety.’ A health consultancy service will be available, offering full body scan appointments and round-the-clock access to a doctor. The former factory site will also have a residents-only luxury cinema room and 24-hour concierge service. The block of 113 flats will be completed early next year, with prices ranging from £645,000 for a one-bed to £2million for a three-bed flat. The service charge will be £7.15 per square metre, per year.

Marie-Julie Gheysens, UK director for Ghelamco, said: ‘At Ghelamco, we believe wellness should be integrated into everyday life, not an occasional luxury. She added: ‘This is not just a rooftop, it’s a multi-dimensional wellness experience that’s never been seen before in London. A sanctuary in the sky designed for mindful living, peak performance, and sensory rejuvenation.’ The new flats are being built on the site of Price’s Candle’s former factory. The site supplied candles to British royalty and prime ministers, helping it secure a royal warrant and become the largest maker of candles in the world while in Battersea.

Property developers targeting well-heeled buyers are battling to lure in wealthy clients and offer residents an ever-growing list of on-site amenities. Many sites are offering facilities more frequently seen in hotels than blocks of flats.

In a recent round-up of the prime property market in London, Barclays claimed: ‘While the outlook remains varied, there are clear signs that interest is picking up at the top end of the London property market: everywhere from the exclusive elegance of Mayfair to the eclectic streets of Notting Hill, and from the historic charm of Kensington to the fashionable buzz of Chelsea.’ But the prime property market in London has struggled in recent years, making it all the more necessary for developers to maintain their competitive edge.
