Amid extreme weather conditions that have destroyed many of Burning Man festival attractions, some of the revellers are now saying they are being ‘electrocuted’ by lightning
An urgent “stay away” warning has been issued to prospective Burning Man revellers as terrified festivalgoers share horror stories of electrocution. Burning Man festival 2025 is underway in the middle of the Nevada desert – and it’s safe to say it’s gotten off to a rocky, well, windy…start.
The 70,000-odd-strong festival is into its third day and has been ravaged by gales, which tore off the roof of the infamous Orgy Dome last night. Grim weather conditions in the middle of the desert are now causing major damage, with one desperate Facebook post on the official Burning Man page reading: “Do NOT – repeat do NOT – come here. There is standing water everywhere.
“The road and pedestrianised conditions are impassable. One of our camp mates was just electrocuted and medical personnel are here. Please, please stay away until the situation stabilises. Await Burning Man and official updates.”
Another person commented: “There’s a difference between being in already and coming in. There’s one road and it goes nowhere without people at the gate. It is unsafe for people to be at the gate.”
Festival attendees have shared footage on social media revealing the almost complete whiteout conditions, collapsed structures, and people bundling up in scarves while protecting their eyes with goggles.
One participant took to X, formerly Twitter, uploading a selfie video of herself and pals taking refuge in their motorhome during the dust storm. The Burning Man reveller described the conditions in the clip, which appeared on the X account @TaraBull808.
“Very first dust storm is officially here…guys are like screaming outside. Things are flying around,” the X user said in the video as she and her friend were caked in dust.
Her pal, also visible on camera, noted that it “sounded like a zombie apocalypse” outside their RV. The festival’s infamous “Orgy Dome” has already been flattened by the sandstorms hammering the event site.
On the “Orgy Dome’s” official Instagram account, Burning Man posted: “Our build team worked so hard this past week to *erect* our lovely space. Unfortunately, the winds yesterday undid all that labour and wrecked our structure. We are still here and thankfully safe, we hope to gift the playa some workshops and will keep you updated @burningman #burningman #burningman2025.”
The unfolding events at Burning Man 2025 have set social media abuzz with a mix of criticism and support. One onlooker joked: “That’s Jesus Christ saving people from std’s.”
