Actor Max Bowden appeared on ITV’s This Morning where he spilled the beans on his BBC EastEnders comeback

EastEnders star Max Bowden shared details of his comeback on the BBC One soap as he also reunited with a former co-star on daytime TV.

The Ben Mitchell actor appeared on the This Morning sofa on Monday, August 25 where he spilled the beans to Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson who were presenting the Bank Holiday edition of the ITV daytime show.

Max appeared alongside former Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn, who played Daniel Barlow’s late wife Sinead.

Both Max and Katie previously appeared in BBC drama Waterloo Road and are now teaming up together for the touring stage production Murder At Midnight.

But the presenting duo were keen to hear about Max’s new EastEnders episodes, which see him make an explosive comeback to Walford from a US prison amid his husband Callum’s shock affair.

Rylan said: “Max, I hear Ben is making a bit of a comeback…” The actor replied: “He is. Yes. He’s coming back as a doting husband, he’s managed to get a transfer from the US and he comes back for a brief stint, which was lovely to film.”

Josie chipped in: “Because he’s in prison for fraud isn’t he?” Max confirmed: “He is, he’s been a naughty boy.” Josie added: “So what is it, day release then?” Max continued: “He gets sectioned out of the US and he’s on day release for Callum’s dad’s funeral.”

The 30-year-old played Ben in EastEnders from 2019 for five years and says he was “ready” to leave behind Walford when he quit the role. Max last appeared on screens as Ben in early 2024, as his character was arrested for an international crime.

He told The Lewis Nicholls Show after quitting: “I did nearly 600 episodes in five years, which is a hell of a lot, and it was time for a rest. The character was tired, I was tired, they [the producers] were probably tired of me being tired.”

His exit scenes saw saw his character arrested for fraud after an international warrant was put out for his arrest and sent to prison in America, leaving behind his friends, family and husband Callum in Walford.

Since then, Callum, played by Tony Clay, has been having an out-of-character affair.

Meanwhile, Max and sinead will be seen on the stage this autumn in Murder in the Dark, a touring stage production opening in September and visiting theatres across the UK.

The twisted crime caper is set on New Year’s Eve in a quiet corner of Kent and a killer is in the house.
