Scott McGlynn hasn’t always felt comfortable in his own skin, but now at 38, he’s come to understand that life’s too brief to despise yourself, and he’s “healthier and stronger” than he’s ever been. He revealed that he worked as a model when he was 18, during an era when the industry pushed the idea that people needed to be “skinny” and conform to a particular image.

“It wasn’t just women being told this; men were too,” he revealed. “Back then, the industry standard was about fitting into a certain mould rather than feeling healthy. For years, I carried that expectation with me,” Scott shared.

These days, he believes the atmosphere has changed, with wellness taking centre stage, something he’s deeply thankful for.

“Now, looking at myself today, I feel healthier and stronger than I ever did before. I’ve realised confidence isn’t about chasing unrealistic ideals.”

“It’s about embracing balance, looking after your body, and being comfortable in your own skin. For me, that shift has been really emotional because it feels like I’ve finally let go of other people’s expectations and found what works for me,” Scott enthused.

He explained that the pivotal moment in changing his self-perception came when he understood he didn’t have to “punish himself” for not “fitting into that ‘old model image’.

“For years, I carried the pressure of being skinny, not enjoying food, and it chipped away at my confidence. What changed was shifting my focus to health and happiness, going to the gym, eating better, and what I like, looking after my skin. That’s when I started to feel comfortable in my body,” he revealed.

For him, the goalposts moved. It “wasn’t about perfection,” but about “feeling strong and living well”.

During a recent trip to Lake Garda, Italy, Scott found himself the object of attention due to his choice of shorts. In the past, such scrutiny would have made him uneasy.

But now, content with who he is, he refuses to let the critics get to him. He’ll continue to dress as he pleases, wherever he pleases.

Scott’s advice? “Don’t compare yourself to everyone else, especially on social media”.

He emphasised the importance of focusing on “focus on what makes you feel good,” adding that “taking care of yourself” is paramount, however that may look for each individual.

Scott stated: “Confidence comes from small daily wins, not chasing perfection. Be patient and kind to yourself, your body is yours, and that’s something to celebrate and remember that even people in the public eye struggle with body image.

“I’ve done movies, TV, and I’m still in front of the camera for shoots all the time, so I know the pressure of always being ‘on.'”.

“What helped me was shifting the focus from how I look to how I feel. Take small steps, whether that’s exercise, eating better, or just being kinder to yourself and know that confidence is built over time, not overnight”.
