Jarrod Bowen had to be held back by team-mates after he appeared to clash with fans following West Ham’s Carabao Cup exit.

Bowen was part of the West Ham side that were stunned by Wolves, who came from behind to advance to the third round on Tuesday evening. And after the game, Bowen went over to the away fans to thank them for their support.

However, Bowen then appears to stop and climb over the advertising hoardings to confront one fan. The England international had to be held back by West Ham skipper Tomas Soucek.

Bowen, clearly infuriated by the interaction, ripped off his armband and had to be comforted by team-mates as they made their way down the tunnel.

He would take to Instagram a couple of minutes after the clash to clear the air: “Apologies to the fans for tonight’s reaction.

“I’m someone who is passionate and will fight every time I step on the pitch.

“But I need to set a better example and you fans know how much I love you and this club!

“We ride through the bad times together and I’ll see you on Sunday.”

Graham Potter added after the match: “I don’t know what was said. Everybody’s hurting, rightly so because we’ve not had the results we’d like. That’s normal.

“Jarrod is a fantastic captain and servant. It was just an exchange of views by people who care.”

It’s West Ham’s third loss of the season – and tensions are already starting to reach boiling point in the east end of London. “Graham Potter could potentially be the worst manager since Avram Grant,” one fan sighed.

“11 goals conceded. Players look lost. Tactics look out of date. Formation doesn’t work. Best players aren’t being used in their better positions,” a second said. And another added: “I think Graham Potter’s had it now…”
