The disability charity Scope is set to shut six more stores by the end of September following mass closures earlier this year.

Between August 30 and September 27 the stores will shut – with the Alton branch closing its doors on Saturday.

It will be followed by Bishop’s Stortford, Huntingdon and Newmarket on September 6.

And by September 27, the Beverley and Fleet stores will permanently shut.

The closures follow Scope’s decision to shut 50 stores in March, which was made after a consultation process.

The decision came after the charity faced a £1.5million loss in the financial year.

The stores closed in three phases depending on different shop leases.

Before the end of March, 24 stores shut including shops in Amersham, Barking and Scunthorpe.

By the end of May, 11 shops closed their doors. With the final round of closures occurring this summer.

In total, the chain is considering shutting 77 of its 138 shops across the country, Lancaster Live reported.

Debbie Boylen, head of retail at disability equality charity Scope, said: ‘We never take the decision to close our stores lightly. For our team members and volunteers, it’s more than just a job.

‘We know they feel passionately about playing their part in our work to create an equal future with disabled people, and our decision does not reflect their hard work or dedication to Scope.’
