Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, with Emile Smith-Rowe cancelling out Leny Yoro’s deflected opener at Craven Cottage
Manchester United are yet to secure a win in their first two Premier League games, following a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes failed to convert a penalty in the first half, before Leny Yoro’s second-half header, deflected off Rodrigo Muniz, put Ruben Amorim’s side ahead.
However, the lead was short-lived as a defensive error allowed substitute Emile Smith-Rowe to level the score with his first touch of the game. Here, the Daily Star Sport provides a rundown of the United player ratings.
Man Utd player ratings vs Fulham
Altay Bayindir: 5
Despite being guilty of mishandling corners once again, he justified Amorim’s decision to pick him over Andre Onana for a second consecutive match. Made solid saves to deny Josh King and Alex Iwobi.
Should have earned an assist with a superb long pass to Matheus Cunha. Was caught flat-footed for Emile Smith-Rowe’s equaliser.
Leny Yoro: 9
Delivered a fantastic tackle from behind to prevent King from breaking through on goal just before his deflected header put United in front. Another impressive performance.
Matthijs de Ligt: 7
Many thought his display against Arsenal was his best in a United shirt. His performance at Fulham was on par until he let Iwobi’s cross slip past him for the equaliser.
Luke Shaw: 6
United appear more balanced with a left-footer in defence.
Amad: 5
He was smooth on the ball and tested Bernd Leno with a fierce shot, but was largely absent from the game. It remains to be seen whether United can fully utilise him at right-wing-back.
Casemiro: 4
He received an early booking and struggled to keep pace with the game’s tempo. Amorim’s decision to shift Mason Mount into midfield alongside Fernandes speaks volumes about his current views on Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo.
Bruno Fernandes: 3
Aside from sending the ball back to Manchester with his fifth Premier League penalty miss, he also seemed to have left his focus at home. He was sloppy with the ball.
His performance, along with Casemiro’s, should raise further questions about United’s midfield.
Patrick Dorgu: 6
He wasn’t as noticeable as he was against Arsenal.
Bryan Mbeumo: 6
He delivered the corner that found Yoro’s head, but won’t be credited with the assist after it deflected off Muniz. A subdued performance.
Mason Mount: 7
Amorim is a big fan. He demonstrated his versatility by dropping into midfield when Casemiro was substituted.
He created two opportunities and won four of his six ground duels, in addition to winning the penalty. He’s currently enjoying a promising run of form.
Matheus Cunha: 6
He should have left Craven Cottage with two goals after making a lively start to the match, which included a shot hitting the post. If only he had maintained that level of performance for most of the game….
Substitutes
Diogo Dalot: 3
A dreadful appearance. Caught messing with the ball prior to Fulham’s equaliser and rarely inspired in attack.
Benjamin Sesko: 5
Didn’t have the desired impact from the bench, but was positioned upfront while Fulham dominated the second half. A nice bit of interplay won a late foul.
Manuel Ugarte: 5
One can only wonder what Mainoo is thinking….
Harry Maguire: 6
Came agonisingly close to heading United into a late lead just minutes after coming onto the pitch
Ayden Heaven: N/A.
Introduced very late into the game
