Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson appeared to attack her boyfriend, fellow American sprinter Christian Coleman, in shocking CCTV footage from her latest airport controversy
Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson appeared to furiously shove and attack her boyfriend in CCTV footage of the concourse at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
In the footage the Paris champion grabs and shoves her partner, fellow American sprinter Christian Coleman. The pair can be seen walking down the concourse when 25-year-old Richardson, who is behind him, pulls his backpack.
And as the pair start to be locked in discussion, Richardson – previously banned from the sport after testing positive for marijuana, meaning she was absent from the 2020 Olympic Games – is seen slamming her 29-year-old partner up against a support column.
Other passengers are alerted to the conflict as the pair exit frame. However, when they reappear they are making their way to the security check with the controversial star – once booted off flight after an ‘altercation’ with air steward – continuing to bump into Coleman.
Another angle shows Richardson throwing an object an Coleman before walking off. And in later footage Coleman can be seen speaking to a group of police.
According to the Port of Seattle Police, Richardson told officers that the argument started because Coleman took her headphones from her.
“Richardson advised she did not assault him in any way and the dispute was only a verbal argument,” police documents said.
Richardson, who took gold as part of Team USA in the 4x100m relay, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault and spent 18 hours in custody before being released.
However, Coleman would speak about the incident to defend Richardson: “For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round,” he said, as per Citius Mag on X.
“I don’t feel like she should have been arrested. I’m the type of guy who’s in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love.
“It didn’t affect me. She’s a human being and a great person, and I feel like you know, we’ve been able to be really good team-mates all year. We’re just two dominant personalities. To me, she’s the best female athlete in the world.”
Coleman continued: “She’s just had a lot of things going on, lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that not only I can’t understand, but nobody can. She’s one-of-one. I know it’s been a tough journey for her this year.
“But she’s gonna bounce back because she’s the best female athlete in the world. I see it every day. She’s gonna be just fine. She gonna be good, and I’m gonna be good too.”
