It comes as it was reported that officers who investigated the alleged rape back in 2018 were left gobsmacked and frustrated when the DPP ruled there would be no charges

An investigation into an alleged rape by Conor McGregor will not be reopened by the Irish Police — and they consider the case closed, it has emerged.

Gardai are not re-examining or re-investigating the alleged December 2018 rape of Nikita Hand at Dublin’s Beacon Hotel by the UFC fighter, the Irish Mirror reports. The decision comes despite a High Court civil jury’s finding that he raped her and the recent Court of Appeal judgement upholding that decision.

Our sister title also revealed officers who investigated the alleged rape back in 2018 were left “gobsmacked and frustrated” when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ruled there would be no charges.

Asked by The Irish Mirror if it was re-opening the investigation or re-examining it, An Garda Siochana — the Irish police force — said: “Gardaí in Dublin conducted an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that was reported to An Garda Síochána on the 10th of December, 2018.

“A file was subsequently prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. As stated in June 2020, An Garda Síochána does not comment on the decisions reached by the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions. An Garda Síochána has no further comment.”

Sources have confirmed that investigators at the time found Nikita Hand to be credible and cops recommended to the DPP that McGregor be charged with rape.

A source told the Irish Mirror: “There was a lot of frustration about that decision. It was believed that this would go to trial. People weren’t happy about it.”

The outlet reported there is no appetite to re-open the file and some investigators believe that the DPP would throw it out again due to the level of publicity that now surrounds it.

A source said: “They can look at charges again but the DPP would probably not even entertain it as he would have a good argument now that he wouldn’t get a fair trial.”
