Rangers have announced the tragic passing of a supporter who fell critically ill during their Premiership clash against Dundee on Saturday evening.

The match, which concluded in a 1-1 draw between Russell Martin’s side and Steven Pressley’s men, was marred by reports on social media that a fan in the Bill Struth Main Stand had become seriously unwell.

The 70-year-old man was swiftly rushed to hospital, where Police Scotland have since confirmed that he sadly passed away.

Rangers has released a statement extending their sympathies, saying: “Everyone at Rangers is devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters at yesterday’s match with Dundee.

“The thoughts of the entire club are with their family and friends. We will be reaching out to the family to offer our support at this deeply sad and difficult time.”

In a statement to the Scottish Sun, Police Scotland said: “Officers were made aware of a 70-year-old man taking unwell during the Rangers v Dundee match at Ibrox on Saturday, 9 August, 2025.

“He was taken to hospital where he later died. Next of kin is aware. There are no suspicious circumstances.”

Rangers fans have also paid tribute to their fellow supporter on social media, with one saying: “Nobody should go to a football match and not come home. Thoughts with the family and friends.”

A second wrote: “Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends. RIP my friend.” While a third added: “Very sad, thoughts are with his family and friends.”

The game ended 1-1 after James Tavernier rescued the hosts a point in the 92nd minute, scoring from the penalty spot.

Ryan Astley had given Dundee the lead before Nasser Djiga was sent off for Rangers minutes later. Russell Martin’s tenure at Ibrox has started with two league draws.
