Talented footballer killed in horror crash age 24 as tributes paid to ‘kindhearted’ player

Heartfelt tributes have poured in for a compassionate young footballer following his unexpected and devastating passing.

Beloved Alwin Sebastian, 24, is understood to have died on August 8 after a collision in the Bedale vicinity of North Yorkshire. The tragic accident occurred on the A1 and involved a Suzuki hatchback and a Scania lorry.

Carmel College in Darlington, his school, shared a moving tribute to Alwin, stating: “We are deeply saddened to share the news of the death of Carmel alumnus Alwin Sebastian who died following a car accident last week.

“Alwin was a wonderful student during his time at Carmel. After completing his degree, he went on to work as a ward clerk at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.”

The educational establishment confirmed that Alwin’s Requiem Mass will be held at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Thirsk Rd, Northallerton, at 10.30am on Wednesday, August 20, reports Yorkshire Live.

Previous football colleagues also honoured Alwin’s memory. On Sunday, Darlington Spartans FC shared: “Before our game today, Darlington Spartans FC remembered the life of Alwin Sebastian.

“Alwin studied at Carmel College with a large number of our players and he was a teammate of 10 current Spartans players and many of our former players for the Carmel College football team.

“Alwin was truly one of the nicest and most affable people you could meet and we were devastated to hear of his tragic passing last week. A life that will be well remembered by all that knew him. We send our thoughts and prayers to all of his family and friends. RIP Alwin.”

Rory Murphy, from Darlington Spartans FC, also paid tribute: “Alwin was a talented footballer but most importantly a really kind-hearted person.

“Truly one of the friendliest and most affable people you could meet, he will be sadly missed by anyone who was lucky enough to have known him.”

An inquest into Alwin’s death is set to commence at the coroner’s court in Northallerton on Tuesday, August 19.

Darlington Spartans FC was created by a group of school friends in 2017, and many of the original group remain playing. They play in the Darlington Sunday Invitational League and have a large following on TikTok.

According to North Yorkshire Police, the crash happened at around 10.43pm on Friday 8 August at junction 51 near Leeming Bar / Bedale.

They are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or have any dashcam footage to contact them via email ryan.lyth@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101 and ask for Sergeant Ryan Lyth. Quoting reference 12250148553 when passing on information.
