Julia Jordan, a police dispatcher, accidentally announced Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement to all of her colleagues when she forgot her mic was on during a live broadcast

Fans today are remembering the day one year ago when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce surprised her Eras Tour crowd in London when he joined her on stage.

A police dispatcher inadvertently broadcasted the engagement news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to her entire team in a hilarious way due to a hot microphone mishap.

Julia Jordan was oblivious to the fact that she was still on air when she excitedly announced: “Taylor Swift is engaged” from the control centre. She had just stumbled upon the big news about Swift and Kelce online and forgot to switch off her mic while expressing her excitement yesterday.

Her colleagues across Lansing, Michigan, however, found the unexpected announcement amusing, with one dubbing it the “best hot mic ever”. One officer responded: “You had an open mic there,” before adding in a dry tone: “That’s great news about Taylor Swift”.

Julia herself couldn’t help but laugh, retorting: “Dispatch. I’m clear. Yeah. Aren’t you happy about Taylor Swift?”

Reflecting on the blunder, Julia commented: “We do a hard job, lots of dark things, so it’s kind of nice to be able to laugh a little.”, reports the Mirror.

She did concede, though, that she has been the butt of jokes amongst her colleagues since. Playing along with the radio error, one colleague teased Julia: “Well, give us some more gossip, at least.” As the playful banter continued, Julia added: “It’s a big ring.”

Another officer joined in, hailing the mistake as the “best hot mic ever”, providing a moment of levity for the team.

Julia now anticipates that she and her colleagues will gather to watch the upcoming wedding, reminiscent of their collective viewing of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

The whirlwind romance between Swift and Kelce has captivated millions worldwide. After a mere two years together, they’ve taken the plunge and got engaged, with Swift, 35, reportedly over the moon after saying “yes”.

According to Kelce, she was “flying around… having so much fun,” after the proposal. The couple shared the exciting news on Instagram, posting a joint photo of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end popping the question, accompanied by a sweet message: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Now, bookies are taking bets on the wedding details, from the date and location to the flavour of the wedding cake – giving Swifties, the pop star’s devoted fan base, a chance to get in on the action.

As the news spread like wildfire, some fans discovered it in unusual ways, like Julia’s colleagues. In a fun twist, Kansas City-based tax firm HandR Block sent a lighthearted email to staff, giving them the green light to knock off early and indulge in some social media sleuthing and wedding playlist speculation.

The tax firm’s email, sent out yesterday, captured the joyful chaos sweeping the nation: “Celebrate love. Speculate about the dress. Argue whether the reception will be held in KC or a castle in Europe.”
